Hello, I was supposed to go to Belmont, but I was supposed to go to Belmont, but something terrible happened and I'm stuck at home.  I browsed for online racing sites and I've been placing bets on TVG, www.tvgnetwork.com , and it's pretty easy.  I've never used it before and it all happens in real time so I don't have to actually go to the track.  I even sneak a couple bets in at work... haha.  Anyone use this site to place bets?

The Past Triple Crown winners

1978 Affirmed
1977 Seattle Slew
1973 Secretariat
1948 Citation
1946 Assault
1943 Count Fleet
1941 Whirlaway
1937 War Admiral
1935 Omaha
1930 Gallant Fox
1919 Sir Barton

Will Smarty Jones pull it off?  He's gotta do it!  he deserves it, in fact, my whole TVG account rides on it!

I think Smarty has a good chance at it...been coming on strong at the end of his previous two races.  Won't pay squat, but we're due for another Triple Crown winner.  Track condition might play a factor, I understand they've got a lot of rain recently.

Good luck to you Trillian...I won't be betting on it, but I'll sure be watching it!

Its supposed to rain I think.  However, I hope you watch the race instead of bet on it.  There is no value there unless Smarty loses.  Good luck tho...

the OTB's in the area were offering a free $2 WIN bet on Smarty with paid admission...

admission? I never went to the OTB... My dad is the one with knowledge of the ponies... he used to take me to Penn National to see the races... that makes all the difference, being there to see the races. He had 1/2 interest in a horse for a few years, but upkeep and feed bills and vet bills get to be a drain, especially when running out of the first place position for a few dozen runs...

I got to see them work out a few times when I was younger... Impressive animals! If it's one thing I learned from Dad it's to not bet the ponies unless you KNOW what you are doing... so I don't bet the ponies ;-)

            LOL

no remorse here... I'm not really a gambler (except for the bigger jackpot lotteries... powerball/Match6 in PA), Never went to a casino, never bet on any sporting dvent... the big jackpot games are hard to hit but you only need to do it once...

My dad still has the knack for picking the races, I remember times he went down with $250 and came back with 2 or 3 grand... there were also times when he broke even, but it is rare for him to lose... he didn't bet on smarty... but I don't think he had birdstone in the win position either...

My comment...the jockey says Smarty couldn't relax, so he took him to the lead after 6 furlongs with 2 pace pressers behind him.  He did the 3rd and 4th quarter mile in 23 seconds and anyone who follows the ponies knows that's way too fast a pace to set with pressers breathing down his back in a mile and a half race.  He took 25 seconds to finish the final quarter and the pace pressers died.

The jockey should have held him just behind the leaders until the final eighth and then made his move.  That's how he won the first two legs of the Crown.  Just my opinion.  I'm not blaming the horse on this one.
