Let's call it the "it takes money to make money" method.

1) Generate the Pick 3 numbers with your favorite number picking software.

2) Play \$100 worth on EACH drawing (make certain you are playing 100 unique numbers... no duplicates).

3) Play them straight, so you get \$500 if you hit.

4) Do that for a full week (let's say six days), twice a day if your lottery has two Pick 3 drawings each day.

You'd spend at most \$1200, with the potential to win \$4800 profit (taking out the \$100 you're spending each day).

To break even (and actually make \$300) you'd only have to hit three times out of 12.

Obviously the real trick is the program that picks your numbers!

Has anyone ever tried this?  I've been thinking about it, and was just curious if anyone else ever had.

**************

And since I seriously suck at math, I have another question.

Pick 3 odds are 1 in 1000.  If I play \$100, my odds are 100 in 1000.  Is it considered correct mathmatically to reduce that down to 1 in 10?  So is it correct to say that by playing \$100 my odds go from 1 in 1000 to 1 in 10?

Thanks...

NBey6 - That's true, but I think the secret may be in finding the "sweet spot" where you bid little enough to make a profit on as few wins as possible, but enough to make the odds worth playing.

At \$50 a game the odds are 50 in 1000 or 5 in 100 (unless someone is going to tell me my math is screwed up and I can't reduce that way).  The difference between 5 in 100 (\$50) and 1 in 10 (\$100) is HUGE!  On the other hand, going to \$200 per game only takes the odds to 200 in 1000 or 2 in 10.  Going from 1 in 10 to 2 in 10 is NOT that big of a jump, especially for an extra \$100 per game!

Guess I'll need to do some "simulations" (i.e. don't actually bet money) for a few weeks and see what happens...

I've decided I'm going to simulate this for a week and see what happens.  I'll post the results here for all who are interested.

I'll play the Ohio Lottery Pick 3 Mid-day and Pick 3 Evening games, putting \$100 (simulated) on each for six days.

The numbers will be picked by my computer, using my favorite number picking software.

The first results are just minutes away!  <g>

You are going to waste a lot of money unless you are lucky and or have a good way and or program to get the numbers with, I would never just try playing any numbers, I pick my numbers very very carefuly with my special system, I would never just buy any combos.

If you are going to do this then do it on an online site such as where the payback % is 90%.  There is no  way in long run you can beat a game that only has a 50% payback.  Play in Iowa where they pay 60% back.
