You can use trend analysis for anything from the lottery to football to how a diesel engine performs. As far as betting on sports, yes some teams or players have certain reputations and everyone likes a sure bet. Sport players get their results from good training, coaching and determination (not pre-determination). If a player or team isn't motivated then chances are they will lose. And if an opposing team goes up against a winning team with a great season or track record then yes there is that "psych" factor which could give the advantage to the team with the more proven wins. But it can also go the other way. A player or team that begins to think they are unbeatable can often take their game for granted and underestimate an opponent and that is why some long term winners suddenly fail. Also, teams with great track records tend to make more money in terms of investment and sales and they can then in turn hire the best players that money can buy. This has nothing to do with pre-determination. It is how the system works if you can look beyond the statistics and see how the mechanics of management, etc. works.
But this can not be applied to lottery games. Unless you guess at the numbers yourself, the lottery terminals will randomly pick your numbers. And the drawing machines are just that - machines that select the winning numbers. Of course, you can say there are patterns and that is why there has been discussions and campaigns to stop lottery games from using computers vice balls in determining the numbers for a draw. All statistics can show trends and these trends can suddenly change and take on new trends. In 2003, Indiana had four Powerball jackpot winners. And three of those winners were consecutive. Anyone at the time could have said Indiana is now the sure place to buy a winning jackpot. So far this year they have only had one jackpot winner. There is no trend or pre-determination for any of this. And even if there was, you can only speak for the select people who actually did win. What would you say to all the players in Indiana who lost? Living in Indiana or travelling there to buy a ticket was no sure bet for them.
The only thing that can increase your chances of winning is to play games with better odds of winning and doing so more often. For someone who wins a few times on a pick 3 game to say they are on a hot streak and therefore are pre-determined to win the jackpot on Powerball or Megamillions is ludicrous. I "won" $15 last night on the Powerball. But I spent $24 on Powerball with Powerplay and have used the same numbers since October 6th. I did this out of convenience. I don't feel I was pre-determined to win. I just happened to have a Powerball number on one line and it had a multiplier of X5. Yes it would be fabulous to win again on Saturday, hopefully the jackpot, but I don't feel my win yesterday will somehow or in anyway guarantee I will win. Even then, my $15 "win" isn't really a win since I'm still out $9. So for now, I see things as it has only cost me $9 to play $24 worth of draws. And that's it. No divine forces, no da Vinci codes. It's all random. And anyway it's only a game played for fun with the added excitement of winning a life changing amount of money.
