I wonder why he would want them to stop! ![]()
Not much going on.
The curly parsley has three stalk branches left on it. Cut three today for my salad. I had transplanted it a few days ago from the butternut squash bin into one of the 2 1/2 gallon pails and it took well and survived. There are new shoots growing on it so I figure another crop off of that plant.
The butternut squash plants are doing well.
The seeds I planted of squash I spoke about have not peeked out and seen what the world looks like yet.
Took the two step stepladder out this afternoon to reach the top of the yellow cherry tomato plant to pick some ripe ones.
Decided not to build another wooden box for squash. The box will take about ten gallons of container mix with dimension of 15 x 15 inch inside measure and 12 inches tall. Will purchase TWO five gallon pails instead. One plant in a five gallon pail should survive in that space.
Until next time.
Going to go have supper with my salad containing curly parsley, yellow cherry tomatoes two leaves of lettuce a potion of soya cucumber sprinkled with Parmesan and Romano cheese. Plus salad dressing.
I think the more fruit a plant has I need to maintain enough ferlizer
nutrients to feed the extra plant growth and extra fruit.
I remember back on the farm my father use to grow tomatoes by the acre and he never pruned his plants.
Looks like I will not be pruning my tomatoes next time. Planting only one or two plants for my container gardening I would like to get as much fruit as possible per container.

TOMATO PLANT SUCKERS PRODUCE FRUIT
Wellll,
Yesterday I went behind the back fence and took up four ground boxes. I have the three wooden ones I made that were actually 16 inch square outside dimension and 6 inches tall. The other one was the plastic pan about 14 inches square and 6 inches tall which is going in the garbage can, The wooden ones I am going to disassemble and maybe build a wooden deck container for one of the squash plants that I planted seed for last week which are not up yet. Would like three each of the yellow squash and zucchini. Everyone in the family eats those and they produce quite a few squash per plant if they are healthy. I took the ground box soil and spread it over tree roots sticking up on the lawn Still have two ground boxes behind the fence. One with the soya cukes and one with the big boy tomato plants in them.
The two big boy tomato plants and the one yellow tomato plant plus the sweet million tomato plant in deck containers did not produce much fruit. About six tomatoes on each plant. Probably because I kept the sucker branches trimmed off. The yellow cherry plants produced a fair amount of fruit even though I trimmed the suckers on those also. When I trimmed the yellow cherry tomato plant I stuck the cutting in container mix to root. They are about six inches high. I will let them grow without trimming the sucker branches this time to bear more fruit. I will not let them grow as tall either. Will top them off at about four feet.
The sweet million tomato plant is in a bucket and I plan on yanking it up and use that container for one squash plant.
Dusted the butternut squash plants and the two eggplants yesterday which started to get ate up by bugs.

Made a discovery in the squash box Monday while I was working up the container mix in the vacant end to plant the acorn squash seed. Came across a white bean shaped thing. Picked it up and it was soft inside. I thought it was a large piece of perlite. I set it to one aide and finished doing what I was doing. This morning I went and got it to see what it was. Cut it open a wee bit with my drywall knife. Had it on a paper towel and without touching it with my bare hands I squeezed it a little bit and yellow liquid came out along with elongated dark things. Wrapped it up for disposal.
Came in and done some searching on the net with key words and finally found this with a photo of egg sacks looking like what I discovered.
Skink egg. I disturbed the life cycle of the wee little things. Will leave them be next time. I am going to feel bad all day for destroying the skink egg.
We have seen skinks in the yard from time to time.

Wellll, Yesterday I went to Lowes and picked up two 42 x 84 inch concrete remesh sheets plus a pack of 100 rebar ties. Then I swung over to Home Depot and picked up a twelve pack of petunias plus a packet of acorn squash seeds. Brung them home and set the remesh in the garage. Took the petunias to the back deck and transplanted those petunias with three each in the flower pails. Then I planted four acorn squash seeds in the butternut squash bin. Had room on the end of the elevated bin for those. Figure I will grow both in the same bin.
Today I took the concrete remesh to the back deck and installed that on the perimeter of the squash bin having it 42 inches high. Had two sheets of remesh left from that task two feet wide and forty two inches long. Took those two sheets and bent each remesh sheet to go around the yellow squash and zucchini containers. Figure I will cage my yellow squash and zucchini this time to grow more vertically. I will also only grow one yellow squash and zucchini squash plant in each container to see if they do better.
Today I also replaced a flower pail on the shepherds pole in front of the house with a petunia pail. One of the pails with flowers in it on the shepherds pole died off.
Tomorrow I plan on going behind the fence and get the four wooden ground boxes where the squash died. Those ground boxes are about 14 x 14 x 6 inches high. I will take a ground box and stack it on another ground box adding a bottom to end up 14 inches square and 12 inches deep for two more deck containers for an individual squash in each one. I started enough yellow and zucchini seeds to have an individual plant in those boxes.
Sounds like big thunder coming our way right now. Just heard a storm alert come over the TV.
Had a he!!uva thunderstorm last night. Scared the living he!! out of me. Big ass thunder and a big downpour. I was about ready to crawl under the bed.

All the squash died off from the blight or mildew. Sweet cherry tomatoes have been ripening and going in my salad. Have gotten cucumbers from the deck container with the chimney for them to grow on. Got about four cukes so far harvesting three this morning. I am the only one eating them so far so that will be the last of the cukes I will plant. Big boy tomatoes are starting to ripen and those plants are doing well. The sweet million cherry tomato plant has done well but I will not plant those again. The eggplant have started to bear fruit having one about the size of a half dollar.
I planted butternut squash seed on 6/5 and those plants are doing well. I also planted watermelon and muskmelon in the two wooden deck containers which had come up. Got thinking about the watermelon and muskmelon with the need to purchase chimney mesh for those plus the need to support the fruit when it grows on the chimney cage. Not going to happen. I yanked out the watermelon and muskmelon today and planted seed in one box with straight neck yellow squash and the other with zucchini seed like my wife usually buys. It says 55 days to harvest which will be toward the end of August. I also pulled out the dead yellow squash in the five gallon pail on the deck and planted yellow squash seed in that. Will take better care of the squash with dusting for this and that so it does not die again from disease now that it is on the deck. I will still need to install a wire cage for the butternut squash. The whole family eats squash. I figure squash is a better choice to plant as I am about the only one who eats watermelon and muskmelon. I will go buy watermelon and muskmelon when I want it.
The burlap mat I put around the butternut squash in the elevated bin is doing real well. The elevated bin use to need watering daly without the burlap mat and now it can go days at a time without the need for water. Have been checking it with my moisture content meter. Will put burlap around the squash plant when they come up in the deck containers.
Going to go behind the back fence and tear up the ground boxes that have the dead squash in them. Will take the ground box soil and spread it over tree roots sticking up on the lawn which is hard to mow over with the roots sticking up.
Getting things sorted out on what I want to plant and how many of each. Plant more than I need and it will go to rot from not eating it.
There it is, 13X ascending, South Carolina 1-8-3
