 WINTARIOFAN UNOFFICIAL DRAW RESULTS

 Draw #025     Draw Date: July 5th, 2007

Draw Live From: SMITHS FALLS

Draw Site: Centennial Park

Draw Host: Parks Canada/175th Anniversary of The Rideau Canal

--------------------------------------------------------------

The warm town Smith Falls lies in the centre point of the Rideau Canal, halfway bewteen Ottawa and Kingston, where its an important part of the waterway system.

Before confederation, in 1832, the Rideau Canal has been both a means of travel and once an escape route for those living in Upper Canada.  It was feared that Americans would attack, and thus using the canal to travel inland.  John By, a Lt. Colonel built the canal and its many locks.  A visionary to some, he made the way of travel a convenience.  Today, mostly pleasure craft and day travelers travel the 49 lock system from Kingston, through Jones Falls, Chaffeys Locks, Smith Falls, Merickville and onto Ottawa.

This year, the Rideau Canal turns 175.  And communities along the waterway are celebrating in style.  Smith Falls takes on a historic flair during the year.  A gala dinner theatre and costume ball at the Heritage House Museum this weekend, is just the start of a year crammed with anniversary events.

Centennial Park hosts a Chocolate and Railway Fesitival later this July. With the help of the Hershey Chocolate Plant in town, it's not only educational, but a free day for participants.  The Lombardy Fair on Highway 15 runs the first week of August with special displays honoring the canal, plus displays on horticulture and farming.    From art shows to walks along the canal, the 175 years is a milestone in Ontario history.  Smiths Falls remains an active community and plays a key role in maintaining the Rideau's history.

Wintariofan Lottery is proud to celebrate 175 years of history in Smiths Falls, and thanks the region for its warm welcome this week.

 Draw #024     Draw Date: June 28, 2007

Draw Live From: MEAFORD

Draw Site: Meaford & St. Vincent Community Centre

Draw Host/Event:  Arena Fundraiser/Meaford Public Works--Parks and Recreation Committee

--------------------------------------------------------------

On the banks of Nottawasaga Bay, overlooking the spansive Georgian Bay is the friendly town of Meaford.    Originally called Peggy's Landing, it was renamed Meaford in 1845, when The Earl of St. Vincent re-mapped the town.

Today Meaford is an excellent place to live and play.  More than 4,100 people call Meaford home.  They are actively involved in recreation and sports activity, most of which are played at the Meaford and St. Vincent  Community Centre.  Many sport tournaments, hockey games, and communtity events are held here.  Over the past few years, the town's Parks and Recreation Committee, along with Public Works has been working to renovate the arena.  Initially built with lottery dollars in the early 1980's, today it has a new roof, stadium style seating and strudy plexiglass boards making it a safe and enjoyable venue.

Visitors also marvel at the beauty of the area.  Several beaches and the Big Head River, make Meaford a pretty place all year round.  The whimsical Meaford BIG APPLE tourist information site and dignified opera house on the waterfront make Meaford a stopping point for those visiting Grey County.  The Meaford Municipal Farmers Market (under the Rotary pavillion at the harbour) lets local farmers and producers to sell fresh fruits, vegetables and premuim meats in an open air marketplace.

Wintariofan Lottery thanks Meaford and the Township of St. Vincent for hosting the 24th drawing of Wintariofan Lottery, and beckons everyone to make a trip to the the Georgian Bay tourist area.

 Draw #022     Draw Date: June 14, 2007

Draw Live From: ZURICH

Draw Site: Bluewater Community Centre

Draw Host/Event:  Zurich's Susquicentennial

--------------------------------------------------------------

Nestled 30 kilometres south of Goderich and just 6 kilometres east of Lake Huron is the pretty village of Zurich.  Popular year round, it's population of 800 remains the same as people here enjoy a laid back quality of life. Even as far back as 150 years ago, the population was at 600.  Proving that it was a stable centre in Huron County at that time.

It was in 1856, when Zurich became a village.  While most of its early settlers were German, the town's founder Fredrick Knell was Swiss and named the town for the city in his native Switzerland.

This year Zurich continues to celebrate: 150 years !  Zurich’s Sesquicentennial is a special time in the village’s history. It is a time of both reflection and renewal.  All residents, past and present are invited to take part in the celebrations.   From a village wide fashion show, to a celebration of Christmas lights, a fiddler's jamboree and free tours of the Huron County Museum...it allows everyone to reflect.

One celebration that will see more people is the annual Zurich Bean Festival.   2500 pounds of baked beans are cooked up every year, along with pork chops and apple sauce to feed the few thousand that visit. With a midway, concessions and entertainment on the main stage...it's literally a weekend filled with good community fun.  The second largest antique car show in Ontario is held the same weekend ... here at the NEW Bluewater Community Centre.

Wintariofan lottery wishes Zurich a successful 150th birthday and Bean Festival this year.

 Draw #021     Draw Date: June 07, 2007

Draw Live From: HAMILTON

Draw Site: Downtown Hamilton/Outdoor Draw

Draw Host/Event:  Hamilton International Buskers Fest'

--------------------------------------------------------------

The industrial city of Hamilton is the largest city hugging the shoreline of Ontario's Golden Horseshoe.  Once the 6th largest city in Canada, today its steel manufacturing is North America's leader.  Two steel companies, Stelco and Defasco pioneered the oxygen steel trade in 1955.  Thus, Hamilton being today the Steel Capital of Canada.  With a strong population of more than 450,000 people, Hamilton boasts many firsts.

The studebaker (a Canadian Car) was invented in Hamilton.  It was also the first site of a telephone exchange...in which the public used long-distance phones lines for the first time between Dundas and Hamilton in 1878.  And the first long distance transmission power line in the world was in Hamilton too.

The region of Hamilton-Wentworth is rolling out the red carpet for street performers this weekend.  The performers called Buskers, will flood downtown streets with many fun acts.  From jugglers to acrobats, to magicians...the city streets are a bustle with members as far away as Russia, who  work hard for applause and the odd donation.   The International Busker Fest is one of Hamiltons' most livliest Spring events,  drawing thousands to sunny sidewalks to see these top street performers.

It's a prelude to a busy Summer.  Hamilton hosts the Hamilton Highland and Scottish Games at the end of June.  And, "It's Your Festival" celebrates the city's diversity with music and cultural dance in Mid-July.

Wintariofan Lottery has enjoyed the carnival atmosphere of Hamilton's International Buskers Fest and wishes performers and the city good weather and good times this weekend.

OUR COMMUNITY HOSTS:

Toronto is known for its many ethnicities.  Every year big fesitivals from Caribana to big ones in the Greek village celebrate the diversity of the city.  It's vivid displays of culture can be seen everywhere.  Whether Chinese New Years and its Lion Dances or the vibrant Filipino community folklore events, it truly shows that Toronto is a place for all peoples.

The British Canadian Club of Toronto, our host, is one organization that believes that message.  Sticking to its traditional British values, their members allegiance to the United Kingdom and the Monarchy is key.  Amongst it's Red, White and Blue decor, the British Canadian Club runs several Cricket, Dart and British Football leagues in the Summer.

It's membership is huge.  More than 50,000 members have been enrolled since it began over 40 years ago.   Their aim is to allow people of British decent to come together, keeping thier many English traditions alive.  Each week traditional dinner with bangers and mash, spotted dick, Yorkshire pudding and new favorites are offered to members.  There's a post-humourous changing of the guard comedy series each Fall, and a new theatre shows launching next week.  This year, the curtain will rise a series on Charles Dickens plays starting with "The Strange Gentleman".

Wintariofan Lottery gives a big hand to Toronto's British Canadian Club for its ongoing contributions to the City, and thanks them for hosting the Wintariofan/Match 3 Sweeps Instant Millions Draw.

Draw Live From: BRAMPTON

Draw Site: Lester B Pearson Memorial Theatre

Draw Host: Brampton Flower Festival

--------------------------------------------------------------

Brampton, 'The Flower City" is one of Canada's fastest growing municipalities.  With a population of over 430,000 people, it's a thriving city located 8 miles west of Toronto.   Known as Toronto-west, many people find living here just like the big-Metro.  It's bustling, has a big city feel, and has a huge transit system and many public services.

With 400 downtown businesses and a very busy financial district, there is no wonder why so many people relocate to Brampton for work.  Over 50,000 vehicles travel its main street daily, passing by the "FOUR CORNERS" ...one intersection of it's well-kept streets.

Brampton was once the Flower Bloom Capital of Canada, where it produced millions of perennials and fresh flowers for most of the country.  Still today, it's Ontario's Flower-town as it's many greenhouses are still blooming.  Dale's Flowers is one of the largest producers of roses and other hybrids, winning numerous awards.

Every year at this time, Brampton is growing and picking some of the best flowers around.  Most of the city turns out for Flower Fest, a weekend long event that has hoticulturalists and those "Big" on flowers putting on their best show.  From flower displays, to new varieties in rose crops, there's always a flower to be sniffed and a rose to be cut.

The City of Brampton is very much involved.  The atrium at City Hall is the site of BRAMPTON BLOOMS,  a flower show where the best presenters show their well-designed displays.  Upon the closing of the show, many of these flowers are sent to local hospitals...cheering up many at Peel Memorial Hospital.

Wintariofan Lottery has enjoyed visiting Brampton this week, and thanks Ontario's Flower Capital for a splendid time.

Many travellers will make a point to visit Cobourg this weekend.  The downtown core becomes a huge flea market, that will see some 300 vendors taking up shop along King Street; its main artery.  The two-day Citywide Flea Market is a magnet for sellers, buyers, and those looking to swap and trade items.  The vendors come from many parts of Ontario hocking wares from bicycles to hockey cards.

When not filled with kiosks the downtown is usually busy with shoppers, and visitors marvelling at Cobourg's unique history.  Victoria College and Victoria Hall are two landmarks that have distinct charm and date back to the early 1800's.  Victoria Park, Cobourg's first playground of sorts, is25 acres of land that is perfect for hiking and leisurely strolls.  Even 18th U-S President, Ulysses S. Grant use to sepnd his Summers here.   We can simply see why.

Wintariofan Lottery is glad to help Cobourg open their "Citywide Flea Market Weekend".

 Draw #017     Draw Date: May 10, 2007

Draw Live From: WINDSOR

Draw Site: Cleary Auditorium

Draw Host: City of Windsor/115th Anniversary Committee

--------------------------------------------------------------

One of the largest cities in the Southern most part of Ontario is Windsor.  With its mix of French and English residents, the city is a stones throw from Detroit.  The Windsor-Ambassador Bridge connects Canada and the United States; being the busiest border crossing location along the international Border.  The cross-border connection allows international friendships to flourish.  Every July 1st, Windsor and Detroit residents team-up to celebrate the Canadian and American holidays with the International Peace and Freedom Festival.  A weekend filled with fireworks, dances, parades, and family fun.

Many who live here find work in the automobile production plants. Ford Canada wheels out hundreds of thousands of vehicles a year.  It's Windsors' largest employer, employing well over 8,000 people.

Windsor is having a special year in 2007…it celebrates its 115th Anniversary.  Organzied by City Council, there are no fewer than 25 events planned at various venues.  Historic city walking tours for one, lets one explore the city's older sections by foot.  All you need is good runners, a map, and a city councillor as a tour guide to see Windsor's colourful past. There's special memorial dinners being held, a visit from The Snowbirds,  serveral large picnics at Jackson Park, and an unveiling of a time capsule from 1892...when the city first grew as an important hub in Essex County.

Wintariofan Lottery is thrilled to be in Windsor. …And wishes the city the best in its anniversary year !

Draw Live From: Bracebridge

Draw Site: Bracebridge & Muskoka Lakes Secondary School

Host: Bracebridge Muskoka Horticultural Society

 ----------------------------------------------

Nestled in the heart of the Muskokas, is Bracebridge…one of cottage country’s best places to visit.  Located an hour and halfs drive north of Toronto, the Summer months see its biggest influx of visitors.  Every year thousands of Ontario cottagers trek to nearby Huntsville, Gravenhurst, Bayswater and Bracebridge itself, to marvel at Muskoka Lake and its many beaches.  Most set up camp or open-up their cottages among the hundred of small lakes that are perfect sites for fishing, swimming, and even boating.   Bracebridge ironically is the Waterfall capital of Ontario—as 22 waterfalls can be found in the area.

Bracebridge might be better known for its Santa’s Village…a real life Christmas workshop that sees Santa in his Summer home, amongst hard working elves.  You can even get a head start on Christmas shopping as specialty shops line the themed village--just three miles from town.
One of the oldest fall fairs has been held in Bracebridge since 1867.  As old as the nation, it has delighted local people who are passionate about farming and horticulture.  The Bracebridge Horticultural Society, which was founded in 1932, remains actively involved with the look of Bracebridge.

This year the Horticultural Society turns 85…and its membership attracts those that care about tree and flower planting, farming, garden design and more importantly, landscaping of the areas many parks.  One of those parks, Bracebridge Bay Park looks impressive as the horticultural society helped rebuild it.  A series of new trees, rock gardens and fresh flowers give a refreshing look to an already beautiful landscape.

Wintariofan lottery is equally impressed with work of the Horticultral Society and thanks Bracebridge and its 12,000 residents for showing us around the Muskokas.

 Draw #015     Draw Date: April 26, 2007

Draw Live From: BLYTH

Draw Site: Blyth Memorial Arena

Situated 15 miles east of Goderich, sits the picturesque village of Blyth.  Pronounced Bleye-eth, the village was founded in 1877,  when Blyth Estates from England owned much of the land.  130 years later, Blyth is truly an active community. About 1000 people live, work, and farm in the rural area.

The village is billed, among other things, as "Canada's Leather Fashion District", as it was a pioneer in leather making at the turn of 1900.  Leather coat outlets can be still found along its main street.  Queen Street itself, is a quaint area in which the business community revitalized much of the downtown core, reminiscent of an earlier time.

The Blyth Memorial Arena is an active spot, where residents can gather and lace up for a game of shinny-hockey or ice skate.  This arena was made available from lottery money in the 1980’s.  Today, it is used by everyone.  Even a weekend flea-market gets the best crowds.

In Summer, it’s big event is the Blyth Festival held each August.   For 32 years now, the Blyth Theatre Festival has attracted top-notch theatre to its city parks and local playhouse.  With them adding five new shows every year…there is always a performance to be seen.   Each Fall, fiddlers and step-dancers polish up for the Blyth Fiddling and Step-Dancing Competition. Held the first week of September, there’s everything from farm machinery displays, to country music, fiddle and step-dancing classes…and weekend long competition.  Everyone has a toe-tapping good time.    Wintariofan lottery is pleased to be in Blyth.

Draw Live From: CORNWALL

Draw Site: St. Lawrence College-Seaway Campus

Host: Kinsmen Club of Cornwall

The Eastern Ontario city of Cornwall is the gateway to the St. Lawrence Seaway.  Known as the Seaway City, the St Lawrence River is a shipping-way for freighters taking its cargo to its final destination.

Cornwall in its early days was settled by the United Empire Loyalists who came here in 1784.  During a heated American Revolution, they took refuge in this border crossing city.

Today heritage and celebration is kept alive by its many community events.   The city is a bustle in Summer with a  military re-enactment weekend, a Hot Air Balloon Fest that takes to the skies in July,  and a vibrant folk and bluegrass festival in August.

The Kinsmen Club of Cornwall hosts one of the biggest events … The Kinsmen Music Festival. It’s is a must to see as 2000 students from 15 schools in the Cornwall area compete in two weeks of musical competition.  During the last two weeks of April, the Music Festival offers awards for best vocal, piano, instrumental and choral speaking.  It’s a free event that literally gets the whole city excited.  The Kinsmen Club works on other projects too…they’re actively involved with fund raising for cystic-fibrosis, Cornwall Community Hospital and doing it all through much of TV-bingo on a local cable channel.

Wintariofan Lottery is thrilled to visit Ontario East and invites Ontarians to visit this Historic

City soon.
