George Karl suffers a setback

Report: Karl suffers setback

ESPN.com news services

It is unlikely that Denver Nuggets coach George Karl will return to coaching before the playoffs, a source told ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan.

The Nuggets coach has already missed eight games since being diagnosed with neck and throat cancer last month. He is undergoing a rigorous six-week treatment program of radiation and chemotherapy.

Sources told Yahoo! Sports that Karl recently needed treatment for blood clots in his legs and lungs that surfaced while he was already undergoing treatment.

The Denver Post reported that Karl's life partner, Kim Van Deraa, discussed his recent health issues in her blog. "On Sunday afternoon we had to rush him to the hospital. His leg was extremely swollen and he was having trouble breathing. After a phone call to the doctor, we transported George to the hospital and he was admitted for blood clots in the lungs and leg. They decided to keep him in ICU so he could be closely monitored. Subsequently, he underwent some procedures to place a filter in the stomach to catch any clots that break loose and also treatment for the clot in the leg. By Monday night, he was much improved.

"We're not sure when he'll be released or when his radiation will continue. We're hoping both occur -- since it would mean he's gotten through the scare of the blood clots and we don't want to add any weeks onto the schedule of radiation."

Assistant coach Adrian Dantley continue to step in for Karl during Tuesday night's 109-104 loss to the New York Knicks. The Nuggets are 5-3 without Karl.

Sources told Yahoo! Sports the Nuggets remain hopeful he'll be back on the sideline for the start of the playoffs, but they're skeptical he'll coach much before then.

"He'll return -- we just don't really know the timing," one source told Yahoo! Sports. "It really depends on how he feels."

Denver's regular season ends April 13.

Reid: Eagles evaluating trade offers

Reid: Team evaluating trade offers

ESPN.com news services

Andy Reid has said Donovan McNabb is his starting quarterback headed into 2010.

But the trade rumors around the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback situation have persisted. And now Reid says that teams are in fact making offers for the Eagles' quarterbacks, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

People are entertaining us with offers. Nothing's been done, but we're evaluating all of them. That's the truth.

” -- Eagles coach Andy Reid

Reid said the team is entertaining and evaluating offers, but did not say whether those offers were for McNabb, former Atlanta Falcons starter Michael Vick or backup Kevin Kolb, who is widely regarded as the Eagles' QB of the future.

"This is the truth: Our three quarterbacks are Philadelphia Eagles," Reid said Tuesday at the NFL owners' meetings in Orlando, according to the Inquirer. "People are entertaining us with offers. Nothing's been done, but we're evaluating all of them. That's the truth. There's not a lot really going on other than entertaining."

Reid would not address the team's specific plans, according to the report, but said from a coach's standpoint, the Eagles are in an enviable position.

"There are coaches who dream to be in this situation," Reid said, according to the report. "I'm not in any hurry to get rid of any of them. Have people talked? Yeah, people have talked. Have we listened? Yeah, we're in the process of listening. The bottom line is if I have all three of them, that's great."

Reid has stated and reiterated that McNabb is the team's starter headed into 2010. But trade rumors have not died down as the team's supporters debate whether it would be best to stick with McNabb, who has brought the team to five NFC Championship Games and a Super Bowl, or turn the page and give Kolb the keys to the offense. And trade rumors about Vick heading to another NFL city where he could start sprung up before the 2009 season had ended.

Nintendo unveils 3D DS

Nintendo is planning a 3D version of its popular DS handheld games console.

The move is a response to the whirlwind of attention being given to 3D content and devices. Rival Sony plans to launch 3D games and TVs later this year.

Most 3D systems require users to wear special glasses but Nintendo said that its system will not need such add-ons.

Nintendo described the 3DS - as the device is likely to be called - the successor to the DS, which has sold over 125 million units worldwide.

Nintendo said that the new console will be compatible with existing games.

It said the games console will be available at some point either this year or early 2011 and promised more details at the E3 games show in June this year.

Nastia Liukin lands a clothing deal

Olympic gymnast lands ‘Supergirl’ clothing deal

Nastia Liukin’s fashion line will be geared for girls 8-12, sold at JCPenney

The Associated Press

updated 4:15 p.m. ET, Mon., March. 22, 2010

LOS ANGELES - Olympic champion Nastia Liukin has a new endorsement deal for clothing — and it's not for leotards.

The all-around gymnastics gold medalist will sell a line under her "Supergirl by Nastia" brand at JCPenney. The inexpensively priced clothes will be geared for girls 8-12 and go on sale in July.

The deal, announced Monday, is considered a breakthrough for a world-class gymnast. In the past, most gymnasts' long-term endorsement opportunities have been largely limited to gymnastics apparel and equipment.

The Supergirl brand is based on the DC Comics character who is Superman's younger cousin.

It also sponsored this month's inaugural Nastia Liukin Cup, a televised meet for gymnasts just below the elite level.

CEO, fan of 7-win Nets square off

ESPN.com news services

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New Jersey Nets' sad-sack season appeared to hit another low Monday night when CEO Brett Yormark reportedly shouted at a fan wearing a paper bag over his head.

Yormark left his courtside seat at the IZOD Center late in the second half of New Jersey's 99-89 loss to the Miami Heat. Yormark then doubled back toward the fan, identified by the New York Daily News as Chris Lisi of Middletown, N.J.

It was at that point that Yormark, Lisi and a friend of Lisi's got into a shouting match, with reporters and photographers nearby.

Lisi told the Daily News that the CEO initiated the exchange by asking him why he had a bag on his head. Lisi's response -- "because the Nets are so good," according to the paper. Yormark then snapped at him and walked off, Lisi told the Daily News.

A spokesperson for Yormark said Yormark had no comment.

The Nets are 7-63 and extended a franchise record with their 14th straight loss at home Monday. It also was New Jersey's eighth straight defeat on their way toward possibly finishing with the worst record in NBA history.

New Jersey has to win two of its final 12 games to avoid breaking the Philadelphia 76ers' mark for futility (9-73), set in the 1972-73 season.
