Well, we got one laptop running and trashed a different one.

Putting this on hold, indefinitely.

Luckily these are expendable.

Got about 18 other devices to work from!!!

Ahh, just reloaded the laptop win-woes trashed.

gonna have to nickname it windows virus.

completely destroyed the hard drive to the point where we had absolutely no way to recover the data.

good thing for us we have backups of backups.

there were only two partitions to start, C: (system) and D:.

it looks like when the win 10 load repartitioned the D: drive to make room at the end of the hard drive for the new win 10 system, it destroyed the D: in the process.

when it rebooted to finish the install, it tried to find the D: drive, but it wasn't there.

kept saying, can't find device.

I am still only using Windows XP and on this desktop computer I only have about 152586 MB
I have 10 partitions on the hard drive and 6 have Windows XP installed on them and 4 are for data.
The WinXP NT loader can only "see" 10 partitions, if I had more than 10 it would only "see" 10 of them.
At least that is have I have see myself.
If for any reason one working partition goes bad, I can just delete it and copy another-one to it.
Regardless of what they say, I still see no reason to upgrade to some other operating system.
The browser that I use and the operating system both work well enough and I have just about all the software that I might need for whatever reason (mostly good freeware).
There probably are thousands of computer programs for Windows XP and I have a lot of freeware.
The only thing that I have seen a reason to upgrade is the Web browser and I have and use a good enough Web browser and it is not a Microsoft browser.

Did you run from Windows Update or did you download image of Win 10 to upgrade?

I've done several for clients, and no major snafus, they all went from 7 to 10 but they are vanilla 3 partition machines, only one machine wouldn't go from update because it failed a bios hardware requirement, I have yet to do an upgrade froma Win10 op. system image. Maybe if the machines had been re imaged, the imaged partitions looked un Micro softish to the Win10 upgrade and it trashed them. Billy bones don't like people messing with his fatty tables.
