The reason for the change in wording.

They changed the nomenclature to better connect with a lot of the low watt light bulbs out there.

Conspiracy Theory is a more cerebral concept that requires unabridged diction.

Fake News is a simple two word saying that even a grade school kid can understand.

So see, Fake News is just the same old Conspiracy Theory for the undereducated.
