Taxes and do it yourself

Published:

The more things that you can do yourself is money you do not need to earn.
Earn money and they tax it.

I remember when doing things for yourself was common long ago.

Resoled your own shoes.
Made your own clothes.
I remember when feed sacks use to come in cotton cloth with print patterns on the cloth so you could re use the cloth for clothing.
Put down food supplies from the crops and livestock.
Had our own eggs, milk and the products from the milk we made ourself. Cottage cheese, butter, ice cream to name a few.

Burned wood for winter heat. Had a few dollars bought a ton of coal for a longer burn between feedin the fire.

Done our own mechanical work on vehicles. I still do that.

Fixed and repaired our own buildings.
Made our own furniture.

A lot of things can be done your self if the means are available.

We still made an  income for spending but was not necessary to make a lot.

I see a lot people out hustlin to make a dollar and by the time they are done buying they have less money left than I would making less money and doing more for my self.

Interesting post, JAP69

One problem is that many people would be out of a job if everyone stopped using mechanics, plumbers, furniture repair techs, etc. However, I do agree that people pay for services that are very simple to learn. One is completing an income form once a year. I worked for a maid service and many people around here pay $200 and up for house cleaning every week or 2. Then there are people who pay others to walk their dogs, mow their lawns, wash their cars, etc. I have a bad back so one of these days I'm going to pay someone to polish my car with a good wax. One big waste is food. Again, if people didn't go out to dinner, a lot of people would lose their jobs. However, you can throw a piece of fish or a steak on the grill for half the price of a restaurant.

I guess most of us could do a lot more at home if we put the effort into it, but all of that takes up a lot of time. Still, your post makes a lot of sense.
