Those worms for the containers
Published:
Updated:
Read a couple articles today where worms in containers may not be needed and more trouble than they are worth. Soil potting mix is already porous enough to let water pass through and let in air circulation. Also the container mix may reach too high in temperature and too much water flooding through them when it rains for them to survive well.
An odd thought came to my mind. I was looking at these containers made of plastic in the garden centers which comes in different sizes. The ones I seen were all black ones. A dark color draws heat wicked bad. No wonder they dry out so fast.
Before next spring I may decide to white wash the outside of the containers to deflect sun rays when it hits the containers on hot SC days. The containers are now a reddish and gray color. I have read you can use those long stemmed thermometers they use for kitchen cooking use.
