Container garden [this & That]
Published:
Out on the patio this afternoon with the Velcro garden tape tying off pepper and eggplant branches that had fruit on them to their stake for added support.
The acorn squash seeds are up.
Had the snips with me for cutting the Velcro tape so I trimmed off dying foliage on the tomato plants. Seen some yellow cherry suckers that came out on the lower part of the plant. Leaving those to see if they will grow branch stems long enough for a second crop. there are three or four suckers on the plant at the lower level. Was looking at the sucker branch where it came out next to the main stem and leaf branch. I decided to cut off the leaf branch about one inch away from the main stem leaving the sucker shoot. Figure it will direct more plant energy to the sucker at that point. There are enough leaf branches left on the plant to collect the suns energy for the plant.
Debating whether to yank up the cuke plant in the wooden deck container when the yellow or zucchini squash plants are tall enough and plant a squash plant in the former cuke box. May take the six foot tall cuke chimney and cut it in half with the heavy duty wire cutter which will give me an extra three foot cage for the squash plant in a bucket or container. I do not plan on cukes again needing a tall cage.
I will not grow the big boy tall tomato plants again either. Choose a tomato plant that does not grow as tall.
