A "cats-meat man"?
I just finished reading a book with characters in them that took place during the second world war. In the beginning of the book one family was so poor that the wife took a penny or two down to the street vendor known as the cats-meat man. The wife went down for some meat to go with their potatoes which is all they had.
I had to look up the meaning.
I think the name of the book was War Brides.
