Dems’ terrible secret exposed: Why they completely reversed course on illegal immigration and border security

In a bewildering 180-degree reversal over the last decade, Democrats abandoned their views on immigration and border security and thus “betrayed their own lower-income and working class constituents.”

Why would the Party that once stood for working class Americans abandon those very voters in search of new, even illegal, ones?

According to Jenny Beth Martin, co-founder and national coordinator of Tea Party Patriots, it’s all about politics as she explained in an  op-ed  published Monday by Fox News.

While more than two dozen Democrats – including freshman U.S. Senator Barack Obama – voted to secure the border with a physical barrier back in 2006, Democrats now not only oppose a border wall, but they are even calling for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

According to Martin:

As they look to 2020 and the chance to take on Donald Trump, they know that before they can engage Trump in the fall, they’ll first have to win their party’s nomination. The Democratic party nomination process is heavily influenced by the hard left, and they know it.

The hard left hates Donald Trump. The hard left doesn’t want anything to do with Donald Trump. The hard left would turn down anything and everything – universal health care under the guise of “Medicare for all,” or even a universal basic wage (that is, free money from other taxpayers) – if they believed it came from Trump.

If Trump touches it, they reason, it must be bad.

Martin pointed to Democrats’ refusal to accept a DACA deal from Trump earlier this year as an example of this irrational thinking. The president offered a path to citizenship for recipients of former President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program in exchange for funding for a border wall.

“And congressional Democrats knew that the hard left would never let them get away with voting to fund construction of a border wall that might actually reduce the number of illegal border crossings, even if would let them legalize and set on a path to citizenship almost 2 million illegal immigrants. So the Democrats turned him down,” Martin wrote.

Activists on the left pushed opposition to construction of a border wall and called for an end to ICE, fueled by hard left candidates in Democratic party primary elections, like Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The “terrible secret” in Democrats switching their stance, according to Martin, is that “they have betrayed their own lower-income and working class constituents.”

Martin concludes that politics has been behind the reversal, and voters responded by turning out on Election Day and choosing Donald Trump. The gamble by Democrats going into the 2018 midterm elections could end up slapping them right in the face.
