IX. Thou Shalt Not Chase

Chasing losses is one of the worst mistakes a sports bettor can make. Never chase losses, meaning don;t make a wager or series of wagers just to make up for a few losing wagers, particularly if you hadn’t planned on making the ‘extra’ wagers that week. Remember, when it comes to sports betting you have to take a few bad days along with the good while learning how to maximize your chances of having more good days than bad. Remember, you should always have the games you plan on betting on in mind. Never make hasty, loss-chasing wagers that could cost you in the long run!

This is an updated version. There's a guy, Ernie Kaufman (The Bookie Destroyer) (deceased?)  that wrote the original and one of hjis was Thou sahlt not bet on a game just because it's on TV.

I have one commandment: Don't bet on the Cowboys, not even when you're gettin' points. They're notorious for not covering the spread.

I learned my lesson about wagering on football w/ Super Bowl XIII in 1979. I bet my roughnecking paycheck against that of my driller/boss and even negotiated Cowboys + 3. The final score was 35-31, Steelers.

Thank goodness I could charge groceries at my home town store as well as having credit at my gas station.

mikeintexas,

There was a Monday night game back in the 1980s, Redskins at home. The O/U on this game was 38.

the score was 27 -10 very late in the 4th quarter. The Redskins get the ball on the the team's 20. Then they get down to the 10, first down. They keep letting the clock run without calling a time out. One announcer said he couldn't figure out why they weren't going for the end zone and the other announcer said, "I think I know why."

I remember a guy I worked with in Vegas saying "The same creeps that killed Kennedy are fixing the football games."

The years later on an episode of the X-Files someone at the CIA told a CIA assassin he had done so much for the agency is there anything they can do for him,
He said, "I don't want Buffalo to ever win a Super Bowl while I'm still alive."

Poor Buffalo; even though it was against Dallas, I still felt sorry for them. Except for "The Big Game", they were the best football team for half a decade, could have been a dynasty.

I used to work part time in between roughnecking jobs for a friend of mine in his family plumbing business. His dad loved to bet on NFL games and often said the sames were "scripted". I don't believe that, but I do reckon there's some points padding or shaving at various times.

I really hate not watching the games, but until this kneeling crap stops, I don't want to support the NFL. I reckon they don't miss me, but if a few million more like me do the same, maybe they might start feeling the pinch.
