 Initially, Lucille Ball was widely regarded as a failed actress, and was kicked out of drama school for being too scared to perform. Her drama instructor told her she would never make it as an actress, and to try another profession. She proved them all wrong when she and her husband Desi Arnez launched the “I Love Lucy” show on CBS, which became the longest running TV show in history.

During her career she was awarded thirteen Emmy nominations and the Lifetime Achievement Award. Lucille Ball succeeded against all odds and became one of the greatest comedians in history.

I remember watching the old reruns of I Love Lucy w/ my mom, who would laugh so hard she'd have to get up and run to the bathroom before she wet herself. The candy factory episode was particularly funny.

While she was an attractive woman all through her life, she was absolutely drop-dead gorgeous when she was younger.

Many people do not know she was once a registered member of the Communist Party back in the late 30's, but so were a lot of other people in Hollywood.

I remember reading an article about coming back to a studio that had fired her and she came back and bought it and fired those at the top.

Another person who succeeded against all odds was Arnold Schwarzenegger. An agent at a studio told him he'd never make it in the movies with his freak physique and thick accent.
