Voice recognition for blogs on LP

Published:

Updated:

I just saw this coming up for text messaging on the news a couple of days ago. Can't this also be applied to writing blogs. There are times when I want to tell people about something here in the blog section, but when I think about how much I have to write, I decide it aint worth my energy, and that it might not even interest others, and my energy would be wasted.

Why not dictate into a receiver and have it typed out. They already do this when you call most airlines asking for arrival times. They're voice recognition.

I guess in time......LOL

Pac,

I see what you mean, but imagine the volume of material that would be recorded from "flow-of-thought" compared to edited compositions?

Having to do it on the keyboard forces one to be concise and saves the reader some eye strain.

You're right....When I'm abreviated on alchohol, I might tend to pronounce words in a slurr, and disrupt the computer's understanding....

I meant anebriated...LOL

You realize that you can talk to your computer and have it "type" out everything and then copy and paste it here?

You can also talk to your computer and record a WAV/MP3 file and allow people to download it by uploading it to a host site.

And you can also use your cell phone camera or webcam for making a video so we can both see and hear what you have to say.    Put that up at You Tube or similar.

I remember a few years ago when the top people were trying to decipher speech recognition, one example they used was the phrase " Wreck a nice beach" OR "Recognize speech". How would the program differentiate between the two?

Good point!

As TrueCritic wrote, it's been available for a long time.   Many people who are handicapped use software that types for them.

It's funny that you brought up this subject. You should have heard me screaming at the phone last month. I needed a printer and purchased an AIO HP, called the help line to register and to ask a question. The automated system asked me to speak the model number. At first I quietly said "F380" and was told "not recognized." I tried everything. Then it asked me if it was a pc, printer, digital this or that....and I yell "printer!" Again I hear "sorry, but I did not recognize your answer. Let's try something else." This went on and on and on. I finally got it to "listen" to me and I heard "so, you have a printer. Is it a deskjet, laser.....and" I started to go nuts. The next time I called it started all over again. "please say your model number" "F380" and heard "sorry, but I didn't recognize the model number. Please say the model number of your HP product again." Maybe next time I shouldn't press 1 for English and see what happens. It can't be any worse.

What the doctor said: The patient said Viagra wasn't working, and wanted to try Cialis.

What voice recognition typed: The patient said Viagra wasn't working, and wanted to try and see Alice.

This has nothing to with modern technology, but many years ago when I was just out of school (boy, that's more like centuries ago!) I worked at a company answering phones and typing letters. One afternoon in-between calls, I put the ear bud in and turned on the dictation machine. One man in the office belched rather loudly. So it sounded sort of like "Dear Mr. Johnson, As you know (brrrrp) we will be ordering your (buuurrrrpppp) and shipping them to you (buuuuurrrrp)

When I first came to work at the Company I work at now back in 1985, one of the custom built CAD systems they had (was actually an Apple IIE with a modified operating system custom programed) that had VR capability. Although it worked, one wrong noise and you would have to spend an hour retraining it again. Believe me, I can type a LOT faster then I can speak. Now, if I can just get my fingers to keep up with my thought process...oh wait...nevermind, somethings just should never be allowed, especially when it comes to my thought process.
