Cattle Guards & Obama/Joe Biden :-)

Cattle Guards

For those of you who have never traveled to the west or southwest, cattle guards are horizontal steel rails placed at fence openings, in dug-out places in the roads adjacent to highways (and sometimes across highways), to prevent cattle from crossing over that area.   For some reason the cattle will not step on the "guards," probably because they fear getting their feet caught between the rails. When President Obama received and was reading a report that there were over 100,000 cattle guards in Colorado.   The Colorado ranchers had protested his proposed changes in grazing policies, so he ordered the Secretary of the Interior to fire half of the "cattle" guards immediately!

Before the Secretary of the Interior could respond and presumably try to straighten President Obama out on the matter, Vice-President Joe Biden, intervened with a request that, before any "cattle" guards were fired, they be given six months of retraining.   'Times are hard,' said Joe Biden, 'it's only fair to the cattle guards and their families be given six months of retraining! '

While those two guys were running our country, everything they touched became a mess.

I was just a kid and was out goofing off in the pasture where we lived when I was growing up and saw my grandparent's car crossing the cattle guard in front of our house. I went running to greet them and in my haste, slipped and got my leg stuck between the pipes. I was hollering, not because I was stuck, but I had seen a rattler under it not but a few days ago.

My granddad came running up, telling me to stay calm, but he was anything BUT calm...which was freaking me out even more. My pop came out to see what the fuss was and my grandfather/his dad was telling dad to call for a bulldozer.

I remember my dad smiling and jogged back to the house and a minute later he was back with the bottle of Joy dish detergent. He squirted some all around my leg and waited a few seconds until it seeped in between my leg and the pipes and then told me to see if I could pull my leg loose...and it did the trick!

I know some ranchers actually ARE having "cattle guards", but usually in the form of motion detectors on gates/entrances, embedded GPS chips in their cattle ear tags and webcams on some pastures because of the increase in cattle rustling over the last couple of decades.
