They do not make cold syrup like that any more.

A friend of mine was helping the lady who owned the pharmacy in our home town; she had tried to keep it open selling gifts and such but after her husband passed - the pharmacist - she just couldn't make it and decided to retire. She had a sale on the other stuff but decided to throw away the drugs since most had already expired.

I found him at the dump and stashing back some of those old apothecary bottles, antiques, but he had no more showed them to me in piles and piles in boxes, the sheriff showed up and he and his son started smashing them b/c some were "Cannabis" and "Opium" tinctures, the Old West "snake oil" remedies, like that. I mean...the stuff was hard and dried in the bottles and I doubt it would have got a fly high, but the law dog was flipping out over it. My friend tried to tell him the bottles were valuable and he was going to wash them out but noooooo...."Gotta get rid of them drugs, boys!"

That was...well, a LONG time ago and after I got online, I looked up those types of bottles and some of them in great condition like these were went for quite a bit of money, hundreds for the fancier and more rare ones.
