Animal Tragedy in FL

Published:

The Jacksonville Humane Society lost their shelter last night to fire and early reports are that a majority of the animals there could not be saved.  Local Jax news is reporting a need for vet assistance with meds, money, etc.  They probably also have many animals which will need immediate foster care.  This was a fairly large shelter.  Very sad.  Waiting to hear how the fire started.

Do they know what caused the fire? A fire destroyed an animal care center in Fort Myers where many people were boarding their pets. They all perished. The Humane Society is only trying to rescue animals that were abused or nobody wants. This is so sad.

Thank you, Jake for mentioning this. I just read that the no-kill shelter was destroyed and it will take at least a million dollars to rebuild. The news said all but 2 of the dogs were rescued, although some were badly burned. Unfortunately most of the cats didn't make it because of where the fire started. I hope they didn't suffer and died quickly from the smoke. Right now they're saying it was not arson. It's been very dry where I live, one of the driest seasons on record. I'm not sure about Jacksonville, since it is about 375 miles from me. Poor, poor kitties and puppies.
