Sorry to hear that jap. Happened to me also two years ago. Now I back up the computer all the time, don't want to go through that again.   Sorry to hear that..!

I see you have another computer now, if you still have the old drive you can try and get a hard drive enclosure for the type of drive you have and at least be able to access the data on it. The hard drive enclosures convert IDE or SATA to USB and you hook it to your new computer thru USB and it sees it as a mass storage device. I just did it a couple of weeks ago to my laptop, fortunately I had a ghost image from Feb. for the new drive but I was able to pull some files from the old drive I needed no problem.

You see the drive may not be able to boot because of boot sector corruption or thermal failure after heating for a while, but the file structure is typically intact, it is worth a try, If it still spins up.
