Human Trafficking | What is Human Trafficking?
Human trafficking has a long and troubling history in America, beginning with the transatlantic slave trade, which forcibly brought millions of Africans to the United States from the 16th to the 19th centuries. Before this dark chapter, America was inhabited by Indigenous peoples who lived in diverse societies with rich cultures and traditions. Their way of life was deeply connected to the land, and they thrived in various regions across the continent.
The arrival of European settlers in the 15th and 16th centuries marked a significant shift, as colonization led to the exploitation of both Indigenous peoples and enslaved Africans. This exploitation laid the groundwork for human trafficking practices that evolved over time.
