Many foreign manufacturers have a lower cost of living and a lower wage level than the US. So we end up with US based companies & retailers importing foreign products.
Hard for the US to compete in manufacturing our own products when the cost of living and wages are higher than most other nations.
So we end up imposing tariffs to balance the playing field.
Those items could be a major manufacturing employer in the US.
It is all about profits for those selling these products.
At least we have lawns to mow for a buck and crops to pick.
