The small picturesque community of Haliburton is seated 45 miles northeast of Gravenhurst in one of Ontario’s most renowned camping destinations. Just minutes away from Algonquin Park, most people have stopped here when on route to Minden, Dwight, or Wilberforce.
Primarily a retirement town, Haliburton as a village dates back to 1864, when the first people came here and began living on the banks of Head Lake. Head Lake today, is a popular spot. For example, music lovers enjoy an annual concert series, the Haliburton Highlands Music Festival held each March. Plans also are underway for another series of summer concerts in the Head Lake band shell.
The arts community is very alive. The Haliburton Studio Tour in its 20th year, takes art buffs to many galleries and shops in the area. Here they can see artisans, pottery makers, and painters working on real life projects.
Autumn is Haliburton’s favourite time of the year. It has to be Ontario’s Fall Colour Capital. It’s bright mosaic of fall leaves from crimson red, burnt umber, and gold fill the Highland Hills. Special Fall Fly-In Air Trips that started last weekend, awes the photographers and many day trippers who get an eye popping view of the changing season. Bus tours of the Haliburton Highlands take place through Hallowe’en. Even Halibutonians are amazed at the glorious hues. Hikes through the Highland Hills is a must.
There is no wonder why Haliburton is such a scenic spot. Wintariofan Lottery has enjoyed its breathtaking trip to Haliburton and thanks the people of Dysart Township for sharing autumn with us tonight.
