Glitzy Golden Globes ceremony scrapped
Awards show to be replaced by news conference due to writers strike.

   


LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Golden Globes, the ceremony known for getting Hollywood's awards season off to a rollicking start, will be reduced to a news conference Sunday by the writers strike and will likely draw picket lines and lack star power.

Despite the revamped ceremony announced Monday by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Screen Actors Guild said it was encouraging its members to skip the show in support of the two-month walkout by the Writers Guild of America.

"The WGA informed us they will picket the event on Sunday," the actors guild said in a statement.

Thank God! You mean I'll have to miss all those corny acceptance speeches, and everyone patting themselves on the back while walking down the red carpet?

Oh well...I'll live...lol

Actually, I'll miss it all. I don't usually watch the whole thing. (never time) But I like to watch some of it and later get the highlights. Why are the writers on strike anyway?

They want more money, Spy! As Leno said the other night, a small group of people are keeping many more from working. Not everyone gets union pay. I wonder how long they can keep this up, since it's been over 2 months. I guess when you work around the multi-millionaire celebs and producers, it's tough to accept wages you feel are inadequate. I have no idea if they get strike pay or what it is, since I've never been in a union.

I admit that I also like some of the awards shows, but only those with a lot of entertainment like the Grammys. Most of the Law & Order shows are repeats anyway! :-)

I think they deserve more money - THEY ARE THE WRITERS! If the writing is not good the shows will flop - This is not the only time the writers have been on strike. Some scabs are writing shows now and some of them are better.LOL

Go for it Justx. I had never met a true Trekkie until I met one that knew the episodes that had been written and sent in by regular people.

I must have misunderstood this blog entry. I thought the Golden Globes were canceled and we weren't going to see actors get up and accept their awards for....oh, wait - those are the candidates running for president. Sorry, never mind!
