PST RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (AP) --


Two men on a motorcycle grabbed a woman as she walked to church, pulled out a machete and cut off the waist-length hair she had been growing for two decades, police in Brazil said Thursday.


The woman, a homemaker whose name was not released, told police she was walking to church when she was assaulted late Tuesday, police officer Antonio Williams da Silva said by telephone from the northeastern city of Aracaju.


Da Silva said the woman told authorities she hadn't cut her hair for 20 years.


"It must have been nearly a meter and half (more than four feet) long," da Silva said.


The robbers cut the woman's hair above her shoulders, he said, apparently with the idea of selling it to be fashioned into a wig.


"A hairpiece that size could cost you as much" as $550, da Silva said.


The woman was not injured, but her assailants could be charged with battery if caught.


Da Silva said it was the second recent case of hair robbery in Aracaju.


Similar attacks have occurred in other Brazilian cities, where the demand for human hair is high.

Pumpi, it's not funny at all. It's assault!! You are always in support of women and talk about how precious they are. Now you are laughing at this? Gosh, I still haven't gotten over the bad hair cut I paid for in July. I keep pulling and pulling and it's taking it's time. Imagine spending 20 years growing your hair and someone comes along and cuts it. Sure, it's not the same as a body part or losing your hair by the rootes from cancer treatment, but it's still assault on an innocent person.

Oh, and it's robbery too. Maybe if she were poor and needed the money, she could also sell her hair to a wig manufacturer for $500 or more. So that's another part of the crime. Next someone will think it's okay to steal someone's shoes. (it happens)

If it goes to court, it could be a lengthy one, or it could be cut and dry....lol

if i was mean i WILL have done it to that woman too...I would have pull out those scissors that you cut garden with and cut her hair, and if she had grown it again, i would have assaulted her again...and i would have probably left a note too saying, this is Brazil, not the United States...
Did you hear the case where there was a serial killer killing dogs..The guy will poison the winnies/sausages and go to people's neighboorhoods and started tossing poisoned sausages at night after 12....Several dogs die of it too, and they never caught the person responsible for it...I thought it was funny too, not that i have anything against dogs, i like dogs....who doesn't like dogs...

Did you also heard the case where in a country they stole 6 helicopters...LOL...(the country happens to be Panama)...

What does priapism have to do with cutting someone's hair? Priapism is the name of the condition. He probably took too many pills, Pumpi. There is a warning on the label. I only know this because of the TV ads, not personal experience.

Hey AngelM- I caught this on the wire too - I can sit on my hair. When I was younger, total strangers would walk up to me and ask if they could touch my hair. Sometimes, people didn't even ask.   I can't remember it ever really bothering me. Now, if someone gets in my space, I'm way more cautious.    I can't imagine someone riding by on a bike with a machete, although I've nearly scalped myself with the car door and seat belt strap a couple of times...    Maybe it's time to cut the mane.
