Hospital serves up mouse head on plate Sat Jan 26, 3:58 PM ET

HELSINKI (Reuters) - A hospital patient in Finland found a mouse head among the steamed vegetables on his plate.

"Understandably, he lost his appetite," said Sakari Kela, chief administrator at the Northern Karelia Central Hospital.

The health of the patient in Joensuu, eastern Finland, had not been compromised by the dead rodent, Kela said on Saturday.

The severed head most likely originated in a bag of Belgian vegetables. The body has not been found and being "a Belgian mouse, the rest of it could be anywhere in Europe", Kela said.

Was it the head nurse that brought the food to him? I know that joke was kind of cheesy.

I'm sure somebody's head is gonna be served on a platter after this incident.

I smell a rat! Actually, I think what happened is that someone slipped the cook a Mickey - or maybe it's a trap. Fortunately the patient lived to tell the tail. Now if the veggies were pan fried, he would have just thought they were mice crispies.

Okay - now for the serious comment. Rodents and bugs get into food all the time in food processing plants. It's usually something we never see. Obviously the company needs better inspectors.
