hello LP members

today maybe the most f****** word BS dealing with computer warranty, usually i haven't encounter any problem with warranty when bought a computer or any part of computer in any store here as long as guaranttee covered.

because yesterday i downloaded latest bios for A135-S4427 model for known issue

New BIOS fixes incorrect power-on password prompt

my friend laptop listed on covered Computer mode which is A135-S4427

Use of any software made available for download from this system constitutes your acceptance of the Export Control Terms and the terms in the Toshiba end-user license agreement both of which you can view before downloading any such software.

ISSUE:
--------
The computer models listed above may display a "Password =" prompt when the computer is turned on, even though no power-on password has been set. If this happens, there is no password that will satisfy the password request. If the computer is turned off and back on again, it is very likely that the same password prompt will appear. The computer will be unusable until this problem is fixed.

If the problem has not happened yet, you can prevent it from happening in the future by upgrading the BIOS to the newest version.

The occurrence of this problem on any particular computer is unpredictable -- it may never happen, but it could happen any time that the computer is turned on. If this problem does occur, it will be necessary to send the computer to a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider, who will fix the problem at no charge to you.

Resolution:
--------------
If this problem has not yet occurred on your computer, then find the computer model in the table below, and click the link for its BIOS to download and install it. These newer BIOSes display a power-on password prompt only when a power-on password has actually been set via the BIOS Setup program.

You may also browse for a newer version of the computer's BIOS at pcsupport.toshiba.com.

For more help, see Support Bulletin 98081213 Obtaining downloads and support docs from the Toshiba Support website.

If the problem has already occurred on your computer, then please make arrangements with a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider to have this problem fixed at no charge. To locate a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider (ASP), please visit Toshiba's Global ASP Locator at http://pcrepair.toshiba.com

Problem:
-----------
after downloaded the latest version 1.60 for A135-S4427 and extract the files then i fire up The Windows NT-based BIOS installer AKAA160A_W32.EXE, will install the flash BIOS when run under Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows XP.

i disregard the capability in Vista since i thought any application would be capable in Vista, method 1 a floppy the laptop not ready, the bootable cd which is require a blank CD and image burning i don't have one yesterday so option 2 will be my choice.

and while flashing bios, the power line when out and battery have a critical stage so the screen goes blank. after the power line on i power up the laptop and nothing happens.

Solution:
-----------
the computer shop always accepted to repair my friend laptop because it still covered with the guarantee (one year) it took 10 days

additional problem: (f*** story)
----------------------------------------------
Toshiba Authorized Service Provide:
----------------------------------------------
Cutting a brand equity cost, compensantion of ASP when repaired any laptop

because i knew little bit about flashing a bios i always update a bios when a friend computer went wrong, and i knew we can re-program a damage bios using some equipment a eeprom copier or something like that. in order to shorted the time i though the ASP got the equipment, i go to ASP and today is the f*** word in my lifetime computer experience because ASP here said my laptop is a black market/personal importer they rejected to repair and take a charge for unreasonable price almost six month platinum membership, i keep argue that it was the laptop bug so it must be fixed by ASP and Toshiba acknowledge it with issue "New BIOS fixes incorrect power-on password prompt" but again ASP id said my laptop is black market or personal importer one and they can't help it (what the f***, sometimes missing here) they compare No NoNo NoNo Nowith well known phone brand from finland although there are an issue of official and not official warranty but we can fixed the phone (DIY) but this is a computer and the price 3x or more with phone brand from finland,

driven by curriousity i tracked my friend laptop on toshiba site and i found the laptop history

after looking the history i get the picture why some laptop although covered international warranty it will rejected in any country because it not registered and it happen in Australia, the ASP rejected my country warranty although he/she shown the international warranty but it no helped when it not registered.

suggestion:
---------------
a provocative suggestion start selling toshiba stock because toshiba cutting brand equity cost or something missing in Standard Operation Procedure when facing affordable laptop for low and middle tech (THE INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY)

lesson here:
----------------
warranty registration LOL

so does anyone (LP members) willing to help me by showing the warranty from toshiba site; just shown the part model and serial number or uploading any picture will be help, i know your laptop will be backup with the warranty if any and i know you always be neat in administration in order to get a warranty coverup, is it?

because i just currious how it work, is this case the neat of administration (the warranty registration)  lol  :)

lucky numbers  135  4427 Smash

thank for any info

No idea whether it has anything to do with your problem or not but the assumption that any program and/or software that worked with earlier versions of Windows will work in Vista are totally false. Vista is such a different system and such a radical change that even some earlier versions of Microsoft software (most applications in Office 2000, for example) will NOT work in Vista.

I have two new computers sitting in my home right now - received in the last two weeks - both equipped with the top-of-the-line Vista Ultimate op system that I can't hook up my printer to because Hewlett-Packard has not yet released a printer driver for my particular printer that is compatible with Vista. I'm stuck with holding on to the old computers for printing.

thank for replaying johnph77

finally after searching "how it work" i get the picture that it was a miscommunication to read the warranty. i read the global entitlements but the asp disregard/by pass global entitlements so i keep telling that the brand have international warranty but the asp said the product not listed on official site so they tricked customers with "official warranty" which is doesn't exist on manufacture term [creating new term in order to protect or to increase asp product]

after asking little help on open forum finally i knew that the asp channel by passing with manufacture region due to objection from asp to handle the potential market, when i read the global entitlements it said that the laptop purchased in here, definitely the product come from region and the warranty goes to region as a result the cost at region manufacture.

warranty apply at cost of manufacture when the purchased country same as the product stay. when it passed if any under international warranty applied.

lesson learn how to read global entitlements from computer manufacture lol

about your Hewlett-Packard printer can you use XP drivers (NT-Based)? maybe "continue anyway" button will be appear.

i hope it work

johnph77 i dunno if it work in Vista, did you use "run as administrator" then use the compability? before run the setup use right click and run as administrator (but please backup your computer, just in case) because i don't have experience with vista except from a friend laptop
