Computer help needed

Published:

When I bought this laptop 2 days ago, I forgot to create a restore point.

I was being heavily attacked yesterday by trojans, hijackers, malware, and everything else you could think of. I have Adaware, AVG, Spybot. They helped a lot, but there is stuff still in my computer I can't get rid of. I know the only antivirus programs that truly work have to be bought, like Registry mechanic, and other PC tools products. Are there any that you can recommend that are free and useful? Thanx..

They've already screwed up some of my registry entries. I know this because I get "Run dll" error messages on startup.

I'm thinking of TrendMicro to download.

Any help would be appreciated.

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/     Since they've added spyware to their scans it will take a bit longer, but worth the time. Would also suggest after scanning and cleaning downloading ZoneAlarm free firewall.

Pac, a similar thing happened to me when my PC was brand new. I was hijacked, and I tried to rid myself of trojans and adware for 7 days, cause I was afraid I'd be charged a handsome price. Well, after 7 days I had no choice but to seek help, cause I'd grown weary and even more afraid that irreparable damage might be done. I went to Microsoft's site 1care. Their I downloaded the antivirus package, and i hr. later I emailed them about the problem. Mr. Chang responded quickly and within 45 minutes he had walked me thru steps that would free up my computer! Boy, was I happy. And most of all, it cost me nothing!!! Take whatever avenue you choose, but that's what I did.

If you're unsuccesful with the "free bees", you might find what you need here:

http://www.paretologic.com/products/

I use their "RegCure" product on a regular basis and like it real well:

RegCure Registry Cleaner
Enhance your PC. Enhance your life! Let RegCure reveal
your system's true potential!

They have many other products that might be the fix your looking for.

I think my RegCure product cost me $26.00

Thanx all for your help. I just installed Trend micro, with a 30 day trial. It eliminated 114 threats, but some are still hanging around. I'll try some of the other suggestions made here. Again thanx to all.

I do too Emily.

But thanx for everyone's reply, especially Konane because since the Trend Micro ran and got rid of everything, I haven't even had a pop-up since. Good ridance.

You gotta love the LP community.

Pac you're more than welcome ... happy things are running smoother.

Free XP registry cleaner .... if memory serves me it was highly recommended in an article on PC Pitstop.com. I've run it a few times with success, fairly simple instructions. Download site is MajorGeeks.com which is a good download site in my opinion.

" Safely cleans junk out of the Windows 2000/XP system registry. All changes made to the registry are fully restorable to it's original condition. You can make an exclusion list of registry entries that RegScrubXP will not display as problems. You can sift through a list of file extensions, company names, run upon startup programs, Internet Explorer history, and uninstall programs to delete what you think is junk. Tweak the registry with the easy to use tweaker! Additional Tips & Tweaks help file with dozens of XP tweaks! Users love it! Click a button to download (in the background) the latest updates from the Lexun Freeware web site! RegScrubXP is freeware! Pass it around! Give it to your friends! Fred Langa liked it better than any of the other registry cleaners, including jv16 power tools! Featured on TechTV in Australia! People are using it all over the world! "
