Got more lumber Tue 6/7

Published:

Tore off the old back porch roof. Got a few 1x8 inch wide boards and about 3 2x4s.
This lumber is old pine but not as old as the first bunch I picked up. This lumber has the smell of antique pine but not the smell of the older pine. This batch of lumber has a continuous color to it of a light brown with a bit of lighter brown in the grain.
May build something else with this batch. Maybe a small hope chest for my grand daughter.

I'll bet that stuff is iron-hard .... any trouble pulling out the nails?

The older lumber is iron hard and tough to get out the nails. The nails are mostly the old cut nails and break at the surface real easy. use vice grips to pull the nails and any that break off i need to chisel down in the wood a little to get a grip again. I lose about a 1/2 inch of lumber on the nail side of the board anyhow.

John if you live near any old boat yards stop by a few and ask if they have any old boats they are scraping out many times they will let you strip the old lumber off the indsides. There should be some choice lumber there for free.
