State voter laws could be over ridden by the feds. Lame duck shove it to ya stuff

The news article was talking about a lame duck session and I seen this about state voter registration laws. Looks like a takeover of state rights to me. If you think defunding a program will stall it think again about that with legislation they want to cram thru before Janurary.

"Other lame-duck possibilities? Senate ratification of the New Start nuclear treaty, a federally mandated universal voter registration system to override state laws, and a budget resolution to lock in increased agency spending"

We fought a Civil War over this very notion. Who had final say in matters of law? The States or the Federal government. The southern states wanted to keep slaver legal. The northern states wanted to abolish slavery. The North won (or so I was taught) and the matter was settled. The Feds have the power to declare law and the States can only fall into line. This permeates down to every level of government. There has not been any illusion to "States Rights" for over 150 years. The only rights States have are those given to the States by the Constitution (as narrowly interpreted as possible) or those the Feds allow them to have by law.

As to those States Rights in the Constitution, well, those are subject to interpretation. As the nation learned in Roe vs. Wade, there are rights in the Constitution which may not be written down but are there just the same. And one of those unwritten rights applies to the Federal government, i.e. The Feds can do whatever they want and the States shall fall into line.
