Sat 11/19 lumber or not

Published:

Did not plane any lumber today.

Helped a neighbor run some 1 pc crown mould in a bedroom this a m. Run about 48 l/ft in about an 1 1/2.

Did not do much until 2:30 when I loaded the truck with the shavings and some scrap wood and took to recycling center as they call it now.  Use to call it the dump but they want the stuff sorted now. Got me a nice office chair while I was there that only had a small tear in the backrest. Use that for my smoke room instead of a hard stool.

Someone can furnish a house with a lot of the stuff they throw away in landfills. Had a buddy one time who was retired and use to salvage scrap metal and any antiques he could find. Done it to have something to do.

I have seen old bath wall cabinets sold for good money that we use to throw away for junk. Can not remember how many old claw foot tubs I have seen in the dump or taken to the scrap yard. Can have them redone if chipped and sell for over 500.00 these days. Have seen them used for watering throughs on farms too.

that's why i said in one of your blogs a while back. to look for an old boat yard they scrap out old boats and some nice teak maple oak and other hard woods are often found. They would make some great details for your desk or you could make some inlays.

You are right Four4me.

Need to check around for salvage.

Wow that's great I had a friend who built a boat with all scrap wood from old salvaged woods it was built like a Chinese junk. Every compartment below deck had some different type exotic wood features. I'd like to see some pictures of you desk when you are done. At one time I had the notion to build a captains style roll top computer desk. (huge desk) But don't have all the necessary tools for the job or a big enough workshop to do the work. However when I hit the big one I might get back on that idea. This desk will have all the best features including hidden compartments. Pigeon holes. Sliding draws, dovetail joints. inlays the works. Only the monitor and keyboard, and mouse will be on the desk surface. The PC cabinet will go inside one of the lower compartments with louvers for allowing air to enter and escape.
