OPENING THEME LYRICS

Good Times.
Any time you meet a payment. - Good Times.
Any time you need a friend. - Good Times.
Any time you’re out from under.
Not getting hassled, not getting hustled.
Keepin’ your head above water,
Making a wave when you can.

Temporary lay offs. - Good Times.
Easy credit rip offs. - Good Times.
Scratchin’ and surviving. - Good Times.
Hangin in a chow line - Good Times.
Ain’t we lucky we got ‘em - Good Times.

CLOSING THEME LYRICS

Mmmmmm
Just lookin' out of the window.
Watchin' the asphalt grow.
Thinkin' how it all looks sanitized
Good Times, yeah, yeah Good Times

Keepin' your head above water
Makin' a wave when you can

Temporary lay offs. - Good Times.
VOICE-OVER spoken by John Amos: Good Times was recorded in front of a live studio audience
Easy credit rip offs. - Good Times.
Ain't we lucky we got 'em - Good Times

LuckieStarr, I beg to differ. Those lyrics indeed are good times. I use to think that way until I heard this song. The Evans' on Good Times knew how to have the blues. They paid daily dues and everything was alright. You have to be able to see the blues jumping up and down with joy. This is a song that rings so true in knowing how to have the blues. When you've done everything you can, you might as well be happy. It's called "Fiesta in Blues" I don't know who wrote it but I have it on Natatie Cole's CD "Take a Look".

Hey fellas, say fellas ...
I've got some mighty important news
Somebody we know is gonna throw a ball for the blues
Don't have to try to get in the door
Just have to cry to get in the door
We with the blues,
Pay daily dues, when invited we're delighted, trouble leaves us, nothing grieves us
Everything's all right
At this fiesta in blue, tonight ....
The bluer the people who come, the louder the party will hum
Those with the blues will ball to get rid of some
And yet way down deep even though we're happy
We're just tryin' to hide a lot of crying
Livin' like the best we can
Men, behavin' like a natural man
Women carryin' on like women
Ever since Time's beginnin'

Well listen here now, be diggin' me clear now
You gotta have feelin' to enjoy the blues
You gotta cry, but by and by
You'll find that tears are the one thing
It's good to lose
Don't let it phase you
'cos it will amaze you
To see the blues jumpin' up and down for joy
Take it from me, I know what's true my friend
That these blues will always linger with you until you go
To that wailin' ball for the blues
Well this piano man is gonna bring a friend,
Who's gonna [shot] the blues the end
Some come on everybody bring your friends and come and make it
Don't have to try to get in the door
Just have to cry to get in the door
We with the blues,
Pay daily dues when invited we're delighted trouble leaves us nothing grieves us
Everything's all right
At this fiesta ...
O what a party, the man with the blues can give ..
One he'll remember as long as he .. may ... live
Even with blues gettin' you down, and tears makin' you frown
You can be happy, you can really have a rosy hue
Come to fiesta in blue ...

I posted the lyrics because I was reminiscing, while listnening to the song, and thought it would be a nice thing to post.

Interesting to note, many many poor people are content with basic needs met, such as health, religion, attitude, A strong family bond, hard work, and the American way, which exemplifies integrity, accomplishment, such as working with a limited income, and either try to make it doable, and if it dosen't work out, well....Get Over It!!! Pouting never got anyone anyone anywhere.

To me, the song sounds like a rejoicing of overcoming the bad times. Atleast in the sense that they are mentaly stable, whereas other families would normaly lose their faith. Sure, they're no better off financially, but always with a winning attitude, Affirmation.

I think if you look at it that way, you can see why they called it "Good Times".
