The jackpot in America's favorite lottery game continues to grow to enormous amounts.
Even though the grand prize was not awarded Wednesday evening, 1,324,903 players across the nation won a total of more than $14.4 million in prizes.
Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Wednesday's drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $250 million.
The cash option for the Saturday, February 11th drawing will be an estimated $120.1 million.
The numbers drawn Wednesday night were 14, 25, 32, 48, 54 and the Powerball was 10. The Power Play multiplier was 5.
Thirteen winning tickets in Iowa (3), Kentucky (1), Missouri (1), New Mexico (1), Oregon (1), Pennsylvania (1), South Carolina (1), Tennessee (2), and Wisconsin (2) matched all 5 white numbers for a $200,000 prize. The two big winners in Pennsylvania and Indiana not only matched all 5 white numbers, but also purchased the Power Play option multiplying the $200,000 prize 5 times for a total win of $1,000,000.
Sixty players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Thirteen additional players who won at this prize level also purchased the Power Play and had the $10,000 winnings multiplied by 5 to $50,000.
More than 152,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prizes by 5 Wednesday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings from 2 to 5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.
Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there aren't any jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.
Players purchased more than $53.3 million in tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night. The lotteries sold more than $2 billion in Powerball tickets in FY05. That translates into more than $600 million for worthwhile state projects.

Good luck to all LP members. It was so good that so many people won money with last night's drawing too. Yep. This Saturday will be the night.

Well that post did not look exactly right. Anyway, hope the message is understood.
I'll wait until it hits 365 myself.
Sorry but I plan on coming out of the woodwork and swiping this one this time. I been saving up for this for months, I knew this would happen again after not too long. Here we go again with "powerball fever." I hope it breaks with a jackpot win.
What would $120.1M cash look like?
“……And if $120.1 million is just too hard to imagine, here are some fun facts about what $120.1 million looks like. Measured in one-hundred-dollar bills, $120.1 million:
Weighs 2,648 pounds. It would take 1.3 one-ton trucks to carry all the cash.
Would line up, end to end, for 113.7 miles, crossing the US almost .04 times.
Would stack all the way down to the deepest ocean depth – .01 times. The Challenger Deep is 7 miles deep; a stack of 120.1 million one-hundred-dollar bills is .09 miles high.
Would fill up 16.7 boxes of copier paper…”

Doesn't matter:
No one is going to see $120 Million in CASH.
That would be the estimated cash option before taxes.....
so, after Federal and state( if applicable) taxes , more like $80 million or so...
I already know how to measure $80 Million :
It would fit into my bank account(s) very nicely !!
Good Luck,
DD
I'll wait until it hits 365 myself.
Ya' think it will get that big. I think this weekend is the winner. It will be a shared jackpot, I think. Maybe three winners this time. But hey, just a million would be nice!
I have the fever again. I am playing in this one and when ever I get feverish, I spend $20.00 plus dollars and know I have contributed to a jackpost for somebody else. But funny thing this time, "I think I am going to win something this time... " Famous last words
Nevertheless, Good luck all. We will have a nice jackpot to share! Tee hee!
Good luck to all LP members entering this challenge. The reason I must enter the PB challenge because I finished a close 3rd place in the 2005 MM and PB predictions thread with 10 3+0 times.
I have a gut feeling it would be a shared jackpot.

Divided by 4=$20million or so! At least the winners will include 2 LP members
That $250 million prize is coming home to Oregon as a one winning ticket. That is WILLAMINA, OREGON! CENTERS MARKET-WESHAR75's TICKET! Now can you dig that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Friday libra!
What has been going on? Are you making plans to cut me in on your $250 million win this weekend?
Hey ya'all I made a 95 on my biology test today(by shear luck) I think it's my turn to win. Hey who know I may be generous with my family, all I know is I will not have to worry about that history test on Monday!!!!
it would be nice to win that jackpot if u hear of a jackpot winner in clinton indiana it might be me. good luck everyone
Count me in!!!
This post and it' contributing members comments are delighting. Its good to see so many ambitious (sp?) players! I hope it IS a LP member that claims the winning ticket for the jackpot. May we each reap some rewards from the jackpot this time!
I'll wait until it hits 365 myself.
You're going to have to wait at least 2 months or so in that case. I'm calling for 3 more rolls to 387 before I take it with a single ticket. That will be just enough to reclaim the US record from Megamillions.
I'd hold out for 437, but the chances of 5 rolls are only about 1%, and that's just too improbable.
Sorry,

What has been going on? Are you making plans to cut me in on your $250 million win this weekend?
Hey, buddy....I haven't even started. 1st.....I need to convince myself to part, I mean 'let go of' $5.00...lolololol........then, I need to analyze my various number series to determine which series to use.....lolololo.....then....as I live here in MD...just one of the '13 original colonies of course. .where it just happens to be raining and sleeting or something outside..not sure which...I have to convince myself to drive myself, to the District of Columbia border to play.......
That said..I bet you are farther along in playng than I am, and I NEED THE $$$$$$$$...really I do.,
(btw).....I viewed the complete number series for the last 3 weeks for the PB, and I must tell you I would never have chosen any of those 'series' lolololol...guess what, apparently I have a lot of company because nobody else did either, which is why the JACKPOT IS $$$$$250,000000000
HAPPY SATURDAY LIBRA!
I know what you mean being in one of the original 11 here in NC...I have to drive over the border to my favorite lottery stop before hitting my favorite watering hole back on my side where it is also raining, sleeting or whatever.
I know a place where the lines are tiny and therefore my lotto club's 100 tickets will be easy to purchase. However, like you said, "SOMEONE" will hit tonight I am sure. I just hope it's me :)
I thought that those series were terrible as well. So bad, in fact, that our club won nothing the past couple of draws, which is unusual.
And........I am doing well, thank you :) Just testing a new Pick-4 that I've been developing. So far so good :)
Hi Libra926,
My posts are so pitiful. Typoes, you name it.
I actually type 160wpm on a keyboard and I never took a typing or keyboarding class a day in my life. Learned on my own. Then the worst part of it all is I was 3 hours away from an English Major in college. There is a modern thing called spell check which I should use, but don't. Grammar is horrific and I shudder when I hit 'send'. Oftentimes, I don't think about the correct word until I have typed it. The only keys I know are home row---I think that is what typists call it. When I read your posts, I just laughed and laughed. You made my day!
I haven't been a part of this community very long and I agree, DoubleDown's posts are enlightening. Of course, he is going to keep our joint account very, very, secret. So, don't worry, only a select few will share in that win. It is going to be a win this weekend, I think. I have spent $24.00! More than my usual $20 when the jackpot gets big. That is a sure sign (has been in the past) that the winner(s) will be drawn. I hope a Katrina survivor wins, too. That was a mean 'lil cuss of a gal! She cleaned houses and lives! Most of my family and friends are starting over from scratch. I don't mind sharing the jackpot with a fellow survivor.
Whew!
Waited 'til the last minute to splurge my contribution this morning. So, let's wait for the big P-A-R-T-Y

Do you prefer "qp".....(quick pick)...???....In MD...."qp" is a joke, and not very funny
I prefer to make up my own series.....starting w/the #5, or 2 or 6, or 1, or 7, or 4...however I think I must be using very conservative numbers, and I try to invent series beginning w/10 or 20, 24,33, or 19, something unusual because this seems to be a trend sometimes. Strange numbers....lolololololol
In the District...."qp" is usually also a joke....most people create their own series....We are not like Indiana, Pennsylvania, Missouri....ect.....I tried "qp" in the past and was very disappointed.....

"MY".....no, no, your Postings are not 'pitiful'.......no, not at all, I always understand what you mean and look forward to communicating w/you...I wish I could afford to spend as much as you do on these tickets.....w/gas prices a $2.39-$2.47, and that's just for regular unleaded mind you...
I need at least half a Tank of gas...lolololol....you can only spend $10.00 one time....and mostly I end up spening $15.00 to buy gas...... yet I keep thinking that if I tried to play more often, maybe I'd "hit the 'BIG ONE' and then I wouldn't have to budget for gas, food, car insurance....I know we all do, but the 'cost of living' is different in each State.....I couldn't afford to live in NY.......
Your generosity is wonderful....I too have been giving money and clothing donations for the Victims of Katrina, as well as the Homeless here in MD....I'm sorry about your Friends and Family, really I am.....starting over w/little to nothing is very hard, and I wish them the best of everything....from reading the postings on here, I can see, I am in great company because we all need to win 'BIG'.....even if it's only $100,000,...we each have a lifestyle to protect ......lolololol

We have a pre-determined set of numbers that we've been playing for years. Now, if the jackpots get higher, then we will add 50 to 100 tickets to the pool and those will all be qp, but the original 100 are numbers we've played regularly since we've began the pool in 1997.
Hey cps10,
Lost you the other day when we were talking about your "idea" to make millions marketing something to the Powerball people. So, you are going to win tonight's Powerball drawing, huh? That wouldn't be fair... you are going to make millions off the Powerball folks with your marketing idea!
What part of Carolina do you live? I used to live in the Fayetteville area back in the 80s. My Dad was US Army at Ft. Bragg.

I mean, you guys have made quite an investment, if I may call it that, over a long stretch of time...I've never understood, how some people play once n'awhile, and win BIG....while others play consistently, and are still reaching for that 'gold ring'.......
Libra
Well, let's see....200 tickets a week x 52 weeks = 10400 tickets/yr
We've been playing almost 9 yrs = approx 93600 tickets total give or take a couple thousand.
Now, 93600/146 million = 1/15000 I think...LOL
Now, we have won $100 many times, and even as much as 1,000 in one draw, but thats about it.
Odds are still way ahead of us. But we keep fighting for another day! :)
WW - yeah, that would be unfair, but PB hasn't gotten back to me on the marketing idea...waiting to hear from them :)
WW - I forgot to say...I am in the Queen City, Charlotte :)

. Oh Happy, Happy Day to all LP members. This is the day!

HOLY MOSES cps10!!! You have spent $100,000 on the Lottery in the last 10 years? And not too much to show for it?
Charlotte... great city... beats the HELL out of Fayettenam!
WW - I would suppose so...it's between me and about 32 other people though in our pool.
Charlotte is great....I went to UNC with a lot of natives of Fayette-NAM...haha
Don't ask why I was on the CT lottery web site, because I don't know...just surfing. Anyway, it was interesting to read in their PB section that when jackpots reach $100M they authorize high traffic retailers to enforce their own "House Rules" including selling only QPs and limiting the tickets to 100 per customer. A winner also only has 60 days to decide how he wants to claim the prize and their 30 year graduated annuity looks like a total rip-off the way they show it, paying less than $2M for the first 4 years on a $96M jackpot. (96M divided by 30 is 3.2) The first $3.2M check isn't issued until the 17th year! I can understand the 100 ticket maximum, but running a card through the machine with the player's own numbers shouldn't take any more time than a quick pick if the clerk knows what he's doing, right? That being said, here in FL I've seen many people in line who mess up cards by bending them or marking too many or too few numbers, so that would be annoying during a very busy time, but it just sounds like too much bureaucracy to me. It reads like this:
House Rules:
Has anyone reading this ever been told by a retailer that only QuickPicks will be sold when the jackpot grows or the store is busy?
justxploring,
Before MegaMillions came to Ohio, when ever I went to Michigan to buy BigGame tickets the truck stop just across the boarder has similar rules when ever they had long lines of people buying tickets. I ran into a similar situation in Indiana when I bought PowerBall tickets, but the stores usually had two lines, one for QPs and one for play slips working with one terminal. The stores usually made up a bunch of QPs ahead when ever they expected a crowd. I started to drive a couple of miles farther where there weren't any lines, usually the long lines were at the retailers nearest the boarders. I think most the out of stators are wiser now because when I bought my tickets at Scott Market in New Haven last evening, I and another player had to wait for a clerk to show up at the terminal. I never see a line any more even when the jackpot is $250M.
We don't have PB in NJ, it is a MM state. However, PA is only 24 miles from my front door. I have not seen long lines in years. The busy places have two or three terminals. The only time they build up is when the clerk doesn't know what do. If it is a bad slip, the it shows the error. ANother area I have had delays with is old machines. Many times they have to put an additional slip behind the original in order for the machine to properly read. I assume it is getting old and not being cleaned properly.

They have that rule in some places in South Carolina. Especially on the border where people don't have lotteries or don't have a specific game, the lines get very long, so that is the case here as well. I haven't seen a limit on number of tix purchased, but I have seen that you must get QP's in certain instances. I go about 5 miles down the road into a town called Fort Mill where there are no lines, and I can buy as many as I please and use my lotto club's numbers with no hassle.

sorry to disappoint...I wasn't able to win us the jackpot...better luck Wednesday? :)
how are you this sunny sunday?

I've also run across a similar reference somewhere. <sarcasm> It certainly is mighty generous of the lottery to let retailers enforce the retailer's own rules. </sarcasm> The way I read it, especially with the specific reference to a 100 ticket limit instead of just allowing a limit of the retailer's choosing, is that the lottery is "suggesting" that retailers enforce the lottery's rules. That's not authorizing, it's dictating.
Whatever they're selling, retailers always have to find a balance between accommodating the customer at the front of the line and any customers who are waiting behind that customer, but it should be the retailer's choice. The customers are always free to accept the rules or go elsewhere. I've never seen a place with more than one terminal, and the longest line, people-wise, I've everpersonally seen is perhaps 10 people. That was at a convenince store where most of the people in the line were buying milk or bread rather than lottery tickets. The longest I've waited in line was behind some lone dimbulb that was playing 100 pick 4 numbers, written on a scrap of paper, five minutes before the deadline. As RJOh noted, stores that are just across the border are the ones that get extremely busy when the jackpots are huge. Besides driving a few more miles, you can often avoid the lines by shopping early. Just like people buying Christmas presents, a lot of lottery players (maybe the ones who are only playing because the jackpot is huge?) seem to wait until the afternoon of the drawing before buying their tickets. As an aside, if you've never driven from a dry county into one that sells alcohol you haven't really seen how being close to the border is good for business.
<< their 30 year graduated annuity looks like a total rip-off the way they show it, paying less than $2M for the first 4 years on a $96M jackpot. (96M divided by 30 is 3.2) The first $3.2M check isn't issued until the 17th year! >>
You realize that's the structure for Powerball everywhere, and not just Connecticut, right? The payout schedule is structured to inflate the fictitious jackpot they're advertising. If the payouts were the same every year the annuity they could buy would have a much lower total payout. By making smaller payments in the early years there is more principal to earn interest for the future payments. If you're patient enough (and stupid enough) Powerball could offer you a jackpot of a billion dollars with the cash they actually have for buying the annuity, and your heirs would be very glad that's how you took the prize.
Just drive a few more miles to the next exit and you may be pleasantly surprised.
For my PB tix, I can stop at the first exit ( Hardeeville, SC ) , but I go on to the Hilton Head exit, which is 3 more miles.
Why do I do it ?
Long lines, poor employee morale ( attitudes )at those stores just over the line, poor lighting if it is dark, difficult on-off ramps, etc...
Next exit = more modern stores, never a line, cheerful employees, etc...
My choice not to spend my time and money at the others.

When I use to go to Michigan to get BigGames tickets, half of the people standing in line were from Michigan and they usually only bought 1-5 tickets and I was buying tickets for all my co-workers. Those people from Michigan had to know of other places with no lines but I figured they just wanted to be part of a crowd or a hindrance to out of state players. Some people prefer to buy tickets at retailers that sell a lot of tickets thinking their customers are more likely to win something.

Yes, thank you. But I do understand the graduated payout they are offering. I have an life/annuities license in FL so I do know a little about them! That's what I was trying to point out (the "fictitious jackpot" as you call it) although CASH ONLY has been on a mission since I've been on this board, so I probably didn't have to! LOL They are investing more and paying you less and trying to convince people that it is in their best "interest" (no pun intended) But I didn't realize that the way they show it on the CT site is the same for every state. I thought the payout method was decided by the state and that some just divided the jackpot by 30, although I'd still take the lump sum. I guess I never really studied the PB rules carefully because I don't live in a PB state.

Exactly. A Forgotten trait in some people. It's your money, don't let people ruin the pleasure of spending it. Go where they respect you.
cps10,
Yo CPS10... just getting back to you. WOW WOW WOW! I can't believe you have spent almost a HUNDRED GRAND on the lottery in your lifetime! Do you also gamble? I am talking about Indian reservations, Vegas, Atlantic City... etc.
By the way, are you a M/F?
Did you see my correct prediction that last night's PB would roll ??
If you predicted the PowerBall or MegaMillions would not be won every drawing, you would be right 90% of the time regardless of the jackpot amount.
The odds of someone hitting last night's jackpot was about 33%. That is the coverage of all possible combinations (146.1M).
The odds for Wednesday's drawing will be around 45-48%, depending on the amount of ticket sales.
Does anybody know what the Powerball sales were for last night's drawing? I am guessing about $60M or so.
The odds of someone hitting last night's jackpot was about 33%. That is the coverage of all possible combinations (146.1M).
WOW only 33%! No wonder the rich don't play the lottery.
The odds for Wednesday's drawing will be around 45-48%, depending on the amount of ticket sales.
Are those real numbers - 46-48% some one will win? Math is not my forte. With the snow, I can't get to PA today, so I guess I'll make a bet through PTS. Hummm, EuroMillion is at $31-32 million. Might get a couple of those also. Maybe it will be a good luck snow!

Yo WW!
That includes everyone in my lottery club, not me personally.
Yes, I do gamble otherwise...I go to Tunica about four times a year on the junkets to play blackjack and Caribbean Stud.
I am Male.
You were right about that roll...not sure how long that will last though. I think it will hit Wednesday. What do you think?

Somebody predicted it would roll and it did. My gut was wrong this time.
Do you think this PB will roll until it becomes the biggest ever?

As an approximation, the numbers aren't bad, but they're a bit high. The cash increased by about $20 million for the last draw, so with 30% of sales going to the jackpot there should have been about 67 million tickets sold. If there were no duplicate tickets and everything else was random, then 67 million tickets out of 146 million combinations would mean there was about a 46% chance of a winner. For this draw they're expecting to sell about 83 million tickets, which would mean about a 52% chance of a winner.
Of course there are duplicate tickets and not all numbers are picked randomly, so the actual probability of a winner will be lower. Even if all people picked their numbers randomly, once 25% of the combinations are picked 1 of every 4 tickets sold can be expected to be a duplicate for one that has previously been sold. When 33% have been picked it increases to 1 of 3 tickets sold. If I remembered more calculus I'd tell you exactly how many combinations would be used by 83 million random combinations. Without the calculus I'll call it 60 million and be close enough. Even if a billion tickets were sold there would be a lot of combinations that didn't get picked, so there would still be less than a 100% chance of a winner. Because not everybody picks their numbers randomly we can also expect 10,000 people who start with 1 then drop a row and fill in the 2nd box, then drop another row and fill in the 3rd box, and so on, picking the diagonal from upper left towards lower right. There are also 9,800 that do the same thing starting from the upper right. I don't know if all states use the same grid, so maybe not all of those people end up with the same numbers, but I'm not simply picking the 10,000 and 9800 out of thin air. Many years ago the NY lottery ran newspaper ads telling people to stop doing it, because about 20,000 people were doing it, and that was with perhaps a million tickest sold for a typical draw. If those numbers win, even with $1450 million cash to share, only some of the old winners will have enough to retire. Of course, several of the younger winners will tell their bosses what they really think of them before finding out that they can't afford to retire. It's a safe bet that there will also be thousands who play the numbers from their fortune cookie, but those who paid attention know that can result in over 100 people playing the same combination, so 100,000 people playing fortune cookie numbers may only use 1000 combinations. When it's all finished, 83 million tickets might use about 55 million of the 146 million combinations. That means that perhaps 38% of the possible combinations will be played, and 62% won't be played.
If the random numbers that are drawn look random and have a random distribution then there's about a 38% probability of a winner, and a slight chance of multiple winners. If the winning numbers have anything that resembles a pattern, or otherwise matches with peoples' methods for picking non-random combinations then there' s a higher chance of a winner and probably multiple winners.
Going with basic probability, I'm calling for another rollover to an advertised jackpot of 360. Being optimistic I'm planning for actual sales pushing it to 362 with another rollover(about a 30% chance) to the 387 I predicted in an earlier post.
It will have to roll past 370 to be the biggest Powerball prize and a bit more than 380 to beat the recent Megamillions prize. Jack Whittaker's+/- 180 million pre-tax cash is the most that Powerball has ever paid, and at the current rate 180 in cash will result in an advertsised annuity of about 371.
If it rolls it should hit 365 (the cap). Actual sales would push it to around 370-375 so a small prize increase to those hitting 5 + 0. If it rolls than it would easily hit 390 (again the cap) with a much larger bonus to those hitting 5 + 0. There is no point in playing powerplay if it hits 390 since the added bonus would already be very large.
so do you think a quick pick will win it or someone choosing their own numbers?

wizeguy - where are you located?

Good luck to all members!
Good Luck,

Hi "DD".........2/13/2006
lololololol.....lovin it.....lololol
You know w/all the spy systems, and hackers out here today, all I need to do is promise any one of them to go in for ."half the account"....even .10cents....and your account number is mine......lolololol.......
After all, I'm your "little buddy".....lololol
(BTW)....What happened on Saturday night "DD"....I thought you already purchased the winning numbers??.....what, you mean no party??......
"CPS".
......After seeing the results of Saturday nights drawing, I guess you're right about the odds, but I would love to read that eventually you and the guys won the BIG PRIZE.....really I would....You are apparently a very nice person, a true gambling man....lololol.....(just teasing)...but someone who in my opinion deserves to win.......
(BTW) All that rain and sleet turned to Snow, can you believe that????? So, I never purchased any POWERBALL TICKETS.....I guess it's just as well.......Now, I'll work on my number series again, as $$$$$300,00000000 looks quite inviting......

well what do you make of :7,38,40,51,52.....& PB 14???

Hi "DIVA"
kudos to you.......on your prediction, and I'm glad of it, because w/the rain, sleet and then snow that fell on the States of MD & VA, as well as the District, there was no way I would drive to the Border just to buy PB Tickets......HOWEVER.....I have been given another chance w/$$$$3000000
Therefore, I will have to put my various number series together and work out something....lololol

Maybe you didn't notice, I couldn't get to PA to buy PB myself. Had to buy through PTS. Only 24 miles away and couldn't make it. Even with 4-wheel drive. I couldn't see from my house to the street. Timing is everything. Of course, I hope to win Wednesday, I could use a spare one hundred million dollars. I have a dental appointment scheduled, and I'm planning on buying him a new Jaquar with my insurance.

Those were some wacky numbers. I did get the PB of 14 on about 6 tickets though, so that was the good news. However...lol. As you can see, we are buying more this week! :)
Thank you for the well wishes. You know that is good karma for you too? :-) Who knows what might happen if we win?
The weather here got cold, but the precip disappeared fortunately. Tomorrow we are looking at the mid-50s and Wednesday we will get up in the mid-60's. Can't wait! Perfect weather for a lottery win!

CONGRATS......to you & the guys.....it's always great news to know you're winning, it motivates you to keep trying for more. I too look forward to Wednesday...That's $$$$300000000, more than I have at the present time......I'm working on my number series, I match & mix n'match.
Those numbers drawn in the Wisconsin lotto are simliar to one of my series, as well. I got the idea from the Birthday of a former colleague of mine, and I use it anytime I play at all. That, I agree is a good series....Did you see the story??? here on Lotterypost???
