Mega Millions

The jackpot in the multi-state Mega Millions lottery drawing was raised to $111 million.

The rollover occurred because none of the tickets sold for Tuesday night's $06 million drawing matched all five lotto numbers and the Mega Ball number. The next drawing will be Friday night.

There were 6 second-prize winners from Friday night's drawing: 1 from California, 1 from Georgia, 1 from Illinois, 1 from New Jersey, 1 from New York, and 1 from Ohio. Each second prize ticket matched all five lotto numbers but not the Mega Ball number to win $250,000 apiece, except for California winner, who will get $570,109.

Unlike the other eleven Mega Millions states, California has pari-mutuel payouts at every prize level, so winners are paid an amount based on ticket sales and number of winners.

Sometimes that results in prizes lower than the other Mega Millions states, but Tuesday night that meant one lucky California lottery player will get more than double the standard second-prize amount.

Also, 32 players matched four of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000, except for California tickets, which are worth $8,258 each.

The winning numbers from Tuesday night's drawing were: 2, 11, 22, 51, and 52. The Mega Ball number was 46.

The Texas Megaplier was 2.

Congrats to the California winner for having the lame parimutuel set up work for them this time!

Man this has been a rather slow riser, at least compared to the previous drawings this year. From the last time it made it to ten rolls it's down by 21M. Another sign of the weakening bond market like in the Wisconsin lottery story perhaps? The cash option is down by about nine million also for as many rolls also.. Not like it matters since I'd still be more than happy to increase my wealth (which is currently lacking) by a nice 51.5 million. Just looking at how close the annuity pay out and the lump sum are now after the initial taxes, I think that makes the cash option even more attractive. With a measly 5% return you could easily out do the annuity by a large amount over 25 years, especially there's some compounding. Of course, barring any big losses. Potential tax hikes are going to be a problem either way, but at least you might manage to avoid some state income tax if you're either in or move to a state with no income tax.

Weakening bond market and weakening economy overall.

I think people play the lottery as much; they just don't spend as much.

I was looking at the sales the other day and they haven't really changed all that much over the last year which is why I didn't make any mention of the economy, the JP amount and the ticket sales for it seem to be pretty much in sync with each other, give or take a small margin of difference. But either way the economy doesn't seem like it's affected MM all that much when it comes to ticket sales. Just the weak bond market that might be slowing down the rate the JP increases which in turn is affecting sales since after ten rolls it's at 111M where as back in August (last time it made it over 100M) it was at 132M after as many rollovers.. But there hasn't been a real drop off or anything in sales for the levels it reaches.

I've been noticing that all along. Glad to see another person on this forum likes to see high jackpots, even though we would, of course, be happy with 5 million! I'd be much happier with 50!

This one's mine people! Banana

I played my birthday 2 - 22- 52 and it came up. I got $7.00. I was hoping for more though. I had a feeling that I should play my birthday. I kept getting thoughts to play my birthday. I usually follow my intuition. Now if I can get the other 3 numbers right.

Time to put the system to test for this game. If anyone interested keep a look out in the jackpot section of the forum for when I post up the observations.

If no one wins tonight, it might roll to something like $150M with a cash option that's around 100M and probably be won Friday.
