According to the california lottery winners handbook, they do not offer EFT at all. It states you can pick the check up or have it mailed.  I couldn't imagine picking up a check worth millions, usually california is the first to do things but it sounds like they are a bit behind.

I kept track off all my EP from the past few months, played all of them today 167. Took over an hour to fill out the slips, LOL. Even though I spent that much, I would like to see it roll!

THere is no way on this earth I would let a CHECK that size be mailed. !! The Post office would lose that in a heart beat and I'd have no way to track it. Instead with such an amount as that (MIllions!!!) I am sure the State can handle the Electronic method if a lawyer handled the transaction. )

Standard time frame from claim and verification of large jackpots is 4-6 weeks and another 2 weeks til it clears thru the bank. IF there even is one that can cash that amount! I'd want mine all counted in pennies, hauled onto a train :)

In Michigan, your name and city of residence are considered public record for Mega Millions/Powerball jackpots. Funnily enough, 5+0 winners (Megaplier/PP or not) aren't. You may elect anonymity for any prize over $10,000 in Michigan for everything EXCEPT a MM/PB jackpot.

You are also required to call Lottery PR for any prize over $50,000 so they can "pre-validate your ticket and schedule an appointment to claim your prize." It also says "You may show up in person, but doing so may cause delays in the process of up to 3 hours."

Like I would mind waiting 4 hours for a $312M jackpot.... lol.

As for your lawyer doing it for you, this is true ONLY in states where the prize can be claimed in trust, such as Ohio. Michigan does not allow this, with one exception... lottery clubs. Only the representative of the club is required to claim the prize, as happened with the porn shop ticketholder... the club's rep came in and claimed the jackpot for the club, all the while not informing any of the media who the person was that actually bought the ticket or why they bought their ticket there. If you are not a member of a lottery club, you are required by state statute to claim the prize yourself. No 3rd party may do it for you.

Yea I had trusts in my mind when mentioning the lawyer/attorney claiming the prize for you, guess I should have been more clear. I was tired.

I think the lottery commision here wants you to call ahead as well to inform them when you'll be there and wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to pre-validate then. I've always planned on visiting the local claim center here in town to get it validated in person. Of course if media is around that place then I'd pass that up.

That's weird they don't allow that, I'd figure with an amount in the millions all states would allow EFT. As another poster mentioned there's no way I would get that mailed to me.

When they have the drawing tonight, it will probably be a little higher.

                    It does take some time.

I imagine another small increase that wont be officially announced until after the drawing.

How would someone without a bank account be able to receive their funds?  Or are new lottery winners required to open a special bank accounts for high earners?  I cant imagine a regular bank holding that large amount of money!

Good luck to all ye Lotto players!
