I have heard this said so often here, in one form or another: It's OK to comment, just respect others religion.

So what is respectful?  Where is the middle ground?

Say this is my post to this million dollar winner:   Complete coincidence...period.

Would that be too "strong?"

Just a straight up vote, yes or no.  Don't need derogatory remarks.

"why should religous belifs have a free pass?"

Why should you get a free pass?

It's obvious you just don't understand our culture.

Where you come from it's a police state where everything you say is under scrutiny and you are told what you can and can't say and punished if you say things that are not allowed by the religious police. You are told what God to believe in and can have your head chopped off for praying to another God. You apparently think that's a good system and want to institute it here to make this place more like your home country and thereby more comfortable for you.

    Listen closely now:

    We Don't Do That Here!

We Don't Care How You Do It In Iran!

    We Don't Do That Here!

    We Have Religious Freedom Here!

I don't know how to make it any clearer than that. I'm sorry your mind got so twisted that you believe that stuff you were raised with is the way it's supposed to be, but it's not. Our ancestors came here to escape from people like you who insist on telling others what to believe.

And I'll tell you what else freedom says. It says I can critique your words the same as you critique the words of every Christian who mentions God.

How in the world can you think it's your right to criticize people but nobody can criticize you?

I don't think it's just a culture thing either, I honestly think you're coming unhinged.

So go ahead with your hate crusade against American Christians but just stop whining when you get a little of your own medicine.

You ain't over there now son. It's a whole new game here. And there's something you'll have to get used to.

We don't take it layin' down.

    We fight back.

I don't want a free pass. But If you're going to debate, maybe you should use counter points instead of racist comments as your answer.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Read the above statement you wrote above. On the opposite end I've repeatedly said I don't agree with any other country's rediculous and demented culture. I've written this a hundred times, yet you continue with this B.S. I don't agree with my country's behaviour at all. What part of this don't you get? I'm a Navy veteran who loves my country. I've assimilated, but men and women in this country gave their lives a long time a go so people like you and me can express their opinions without a police state on their ass all the time.

Stop equating me with those radical losers in Iran. If you really knew me you'd regeret saying those things. I came her when I was 7 years old in 1971. I went satright from the airport to the Macy's day parade on Thanksgiving day in N.Y. I eb=ven have an 8 millimeter movie of this event that's been converted to VHS. My family was already here, so I came here all by myself in a Boeing with the help of a Stewardess.

After the parade we went to Central Park in Manahattan, and I ate my very forst slice of pizza from a roach coach pizza wagon. I burnt my mouth cause we had to wait for a new pie and it was piping hot.

I play Rock guitar and all kinds of styles. I've owned one Chevy and ate many apple pies.

I'm an American. NOW, that we've established this ( I'll show you my DD-214 upon request), can we stop the racist remarks because they have absolutely no bearing to the subject at hand.

@ Ridge, Here's the original thread where all this started. The link shows where I congratulated Elizabeth on her win. Todd cleaned up the thread, so I can't show where I asked the question because he deleted it. But trust me, all I did was ask another poster a question. Whether it was divine intervention or not.

So you said something real nice and it got deleted cuz it was too nice and too respectful?

        Gimme a break.

xTo me, a fact is something that can be verified by either a scientific approach that is proven, or by circumstantial eveidence. Not all things can fit so neatly into this because even scientific tests have flaws. But most importantly, I find that a mixture of common sense and factual evidence makes the best tool for reaching a decision, but that's just my opinion.

It's a FACT, that light travels 186,000 per second, and it's IMPOSSIBLE based on that FACT, that the universe can only be a few thousand years old. The reason folks don't want to tackle this is because they have NO answer. Jarasan attempted a while back by mentioning Tachyons that are claimed to travel faster than the speed of light, but unfortunately he didn't do is homework because Tachyons are nothing but hypothetical. Even if they were real, they would present a whole host of other contradictions.

That is why I'm an Agnostic. I don't know for sure whether there is a God or not, and I don't claim I have insider serects to this, no one does, If they do, then they are delusional. So since there is no clear evidence of whether he exists, and even If he did, which of the THOUSANDS of Gods would you choose, so I choose to be spiritual.

But here's what I was talking about earlier when I said fact and common sense play a vital role. Over the years I came to the conclusion that since we are made of energy, and and enery cannot be destroyed, only changes, that there may POSSIBLY be a way for some form of ourselves to continue after this life has ended. And that's where my spirituality comes in. I'm open to the possibilities out there, but I will NEVER EVER subscribe to organized religion. There are literally WAY TOO many variables in life for one religion to be correct and all the other thousands to be wrong, unless that one religion can PROVE to be the right one. Til this day, none of them can prove anything except quotes fom their own texts.

If there is a God out there, and he's a loving God who knows more than we will ever be able to imagine, I'm willing to bet my soul that he has a much better approach with dealing with humans who actually take the time to search for truth, and not blindly accept the most convenient path and pick one of the top five popular religions, claiming they are right and everyone else is wrong.

There's a word for that kind of behavior. It's called DELUSIONAL.

xTo me, a fact is something that can be verified by either a scientific approach that is proven, or by circumstantial evidence.

A fact is what the current authority say it is, whether it's true or not. It's the people who have the creditials to say so. The world was once thought to be flat and if you sailed on the ocean you would fall off.  So whatever you believe about science is just the opinion of others.  It's all they can figure out now.

People died and suffered from many diseases because the current authority (doctors) said there were no such thing as germs when chemists and scientists tried to tell them so.  The current authority ran Louis Pasteur  of his country when he introduced microbes and vaccines. Doctors didn't think it was necessary to wash their hands.  They didn't believe that something as small a germs even existed.  It was laughed at.

Many children died and suffered from Polio because the current authority didn't want to use a method a woman used (she actually healed many of them) because she wasn't the current authority.  Just a nurse.

So facts change.  Current authority changes. I'm sure the doctors who didn't believe there was such a thing as microbes proved their methods and it became the current authority.

Same thing with science.  It changes and is often debunked.  Facts of circustancial evidence depends on how it is used or who is using it.  Someone can be innocence but proven guilty, or guilty and proven innocent.

The people who make our laws is the current authority.  Do they deal with facts? They are facts for us though aren't they.  Facts are not always true, honest or just or proven.  So a fact is not always something that is proven.  It's just is because the current authority say so.  Even with science and technology.

So the answer to your light years question is that facts change, depend on who is telling it.  Knowledge changes.  Nobody knows anything really.  Just look at text books in the last century or the last 20 years.  Another machine will be built to measure light years differently and it will be an "oops" we didn't calulate that right and then it will be written down as the current authority on the subject.

When man don't know a mystery they give their opinion and the world has to take the opinion of the current authority because they have the credentials to say so. So scientific facts change as quickly as decades go by.

The light years data is just opinion which will probably change in the next decade or sooner than that.  Man is not as smart as you think they are.  They really don't know anything.  They are just as dumb as they were thousands of years ago or they would have figured out why some pyramids are still standing.  Otherwise blame it on aliens.

We agreed that I can say what I want, and you can say what you want. You forgot already?

                        Who's stopping you?

There's apparently more than our culture that you don't understand.

You don't even understand what racism is.

People have truly suffered under racism in this country.

Please don't diminish the reality and magnitude of their genuine suffering by including yourself in their ranks for some cheap, fraudulent, personal satisfaction.

                            That's going over the line.

Mentioning how men treat women in your country has nothing to do with racism.

                            And you know it.

xTo me, a fact is something that can be verified by either a scientific approach that is proven, or by circumstantial evidence.

                              Now that makes sense!

                              Thanks, Tenaj.
