UK National Lottery

A one-off National Lottery draw will create 100 millionaires as a 'thank you' to players for helping fund the London Olympics.

The EuroMillions Millionaire Raffle draw will take place on the night of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on July 27, a National Lottery spokesman said.

The event guarantees a million-pound check for 100 UK players, breaking the world record for the most millionaires created in a single draw.

National Lottery players are contributing a whopping £2.2 billion towards the staging of the London 2012 Games, including venues and infrastructure.

The spokesman said: 'The opening ceremony will be a huge night for Britain and this amazing draw is set to add to that excitement, making it truly a night to remember.

'We will see 100 UK players become millionaires as the torch is lit above London, smashing the world record for the most millionaires created in one night.

'National Lottery players are playing a key role in the London 2012 Games, helping fund both the infrastructure and venues, and provide life-changing support to athletes.

'This special one-off draw celebrates their role in helping bring the Games to London.'

The previous record for million-pound winners in a single draw was set after 25 players won in the EuroMillions Millionaire Raffle draw on Christmas Eve in 2010.

The biggest ever British jackpot was claimed by Colin and Chris Weir from Largs, Ayrshire, who banked £161 million last July from their £2 ticket.

There have now been 22 UK winners since the nine-country European draw was launched in 2004.

A real nice to repay the people that made the London Olympics possible. The lottery players!  Type

The world can always use more millionaires, to help continue to stimulate our economies. I'm sure dpoly would have no argument there.  LOL

I think I need to route myself through London prior to the Olympic games...I want in!  On second thought, scratch that idea since I dislike flying any airline not in the SkyTeam alliance and my travel agency would likely throw me on AA, BA, or UA and I would be PO'd.

Unlike the US which rewards player for voluntarily paying more for schools by taxing us even more when we win.

Is money used for other purposes besides schools?  That's all I hear about in Idaho.

Now I like that real good.

Wish they'd do it here.

Best of all is that they don't tax lottery winnings over there. Thats about $1.5M cash! woooweeee I'd say thats the raffle of a lifetime. And the fact that 100 people will be millionaires at once makes it very enticing because it looks easy. Does anybody know how I can buy into that without flying over? I wanna support the London Olympics too Wink

I want in this is what the united states should be doing with the lotteries here but no instead will increase a jackpot to almost $700 million dollars and 3 people win.

We all need to see how we can get some raffle tickets because one of the tickets are bound to be a winner or some winners.

Sorry LP friends, I was away & then I ended up in the hospital 2 times this week.
We seem to have trend in my area with millionaires. Not long ago there was a $2,000,000 Powerball Powerplay winner near my town. And now in the last Powerball Drawing we have $1,000,000 winner closer!
Hurray for the UK, but Woo Hoo, the money keeps getting closer to my house!
