Powerball

UPPER DARBY, Pa. — A woman has claimed the winning ticket in a $131.5 million Powerball drawing that she bought at a Philadelphia beer store last month.

Lottery officials say Upper Darby resident Patricia Chandler turned in the winning ticket Tuesday from the June 22, 2013, Powerball drawing. They say she has opted to collect her winnings as a lump sum of $77.4 million.

According to lottery officials, Chandler's jackpot is the fourth-largest Powerball cash prize ever awarded by the Pennsylvania Lottery.

Chandler hasn't commented publicly. She doesn't have the cash yet; the lottery says it will take 4 to 6 weeks.

She bought the ticket at the Federal Beer distributorship in the city's Point Breeze section. The store's owner, Gary Patel, received a $100,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Thanks to dpoly1 for the tip.

"According to lottery officials, Chandler's jackpot is the fourth-largest Powerball cash prize ever awarded by the Pennsylvania Lottery."

Someone in Pennsylvania could beat that record by winning tonight's PB jackpot of $235M/$136.5M cash.

How can she not have the money yet? "It takes 4 - 6 weeks" - say what? Usually when you win, you can't get it immediately because they have to collect the money from all the states, which takes about 2 weeks. It's already been a month since this drawing. The money should be ready to be forwarded to her account.

This just sounds fishy.

I suppose a liquor store jp winning PB ticket is less embarrassing than one from a porn shop like the one from Detroit in 2010 Cheers

usually they would give a partial down payment to tide her over. probably didn't ask and knowing pennsylvania they probably didn't offer. her bank if she has one would absolutely give her a 30 day loan for 100 grand or so for pin money until it comes in.

you'd have to open a convenience store on chocktaw ridge, ridge. and hire billy joe mcallister and billy clyde tuggle as box boys. i wonder what percentage of convenience stores are owned or run by a patel. seriously it has to be over 25%.

I Agree! Plus, the state's Lottery Headquarters are also, usually, supposed to check and deduct claimant's any past due payments towards:  liens, judgments, alimony, child support, county property taxes, state income taxes, federal income taxes, local government municipality bills/fees, bail monies, etc.

Regardless, congratulations Patricia Chandler on your BIG Powerball jackpot win!!!

The PA lottery is gonna try to milk this jackpot for all its worth. This woman already waited about 4 weeks, and PA lottery is gonna make her wait, another 2-4 weeks, just to collect her money. Sounds like a ripoff to me. Interest  payments on all that money, for two months....Hmmmm!!!.

if she wanted it sooner she should have come in sooner. she will have trouble hiding as she looks as she needs fast food 6 times a day. who gives a rats ass about interest. money managers will have a field day bilking her as it is.

From what I read , the best thing to do is .......plan , and hide so the world

doesn't see you , or move to a state that's anonymous .  The sooner you plan

while admittedly the "pin money" expression isn't that common, somewhat shocked that it is that uncommon. i've alway thought it referred to money you pocket for yourself after you pay your bills to spend on something regarded by most as foolish. such as scratch off tickets or potato chips or candy etc.  moving to a state that's anonymous would be like "shutting the barn door after the horse has left". another obviously outdated expression. to turn in your ticket sooner so that you don't miss out on a couple of weeks interest seems trivial after winning over 100million. best time to turn it in would be about 10 minutes before closing on a friday to help avoid unwanted attention by the media etc....i might be confusing "pin money" with "mad money", nevertheless it is your money that you carry on you, although today debit cards have replaced it. again, moving to a state that's anonymous "after" you win doesn't seem to make any sense.

I looked it up and it said it might date to Henry the VIII's time. Women were given extra money by their husbands for the expensive pins which were in fashion. I know I have heard the expression in some old movies..1950's or before. I thought it meant money pinned inside your shirt for an emergency...lol

I wouldn't mind doin' a little "business" with that realtor. Naughty

And not that I would.

Far be it from me to even think about it.

Perish the thought.

jamella724

The good thing about getting the money after 4-6 weeks is that she will have ample time to think and plan. I guess it's ok to splurge a little bit buy the things that she desires but then back to reality she has to carefully plan and spend her money wisely. People might take advantage of her so she has to be careful not to fall with other people's trap. But of course I hope she will give back to her community.
