LottoMetro, how do you know it will never materialize?  I look at it this way, just be in the game, if only \$1.00  .   I have my thoughts about the game as far as the randomness of the game, and I still believe that the game looks for the least played set of numbers.  I have no proof of this, but I'm still in the game.

Because the odds are 1 in 258.9 million, that's how!  I do play, just not often. I would rather play something I have better chances of achieving in my lifetime.

If the game "looked" for the least played set of numbers, then those who play the least played set of numbers would win more often than those who do not. And the stats show that this is not the case. Though technically, the winning set of numbers in any given draw will inherently be the least played in that particular drawing...either played by nobody or played by only a handful of people. But this is irrelevant as number selection has no bearing on any future drawing. Besides, if only 30 million people buy tickets, even if they are all unique combinations, there are still 228.9 million combinations not played!

If the chances of winning the jackpot are so slim, why play when the jackpot is so small? Your chances never change, but the potential payoff does.
If a crystal ball showed you the future of the rest of your life, and in that future you will never win a jackpot, would you still play?

Hubby and I will buy our tickets tonight.  Also one for Powerball, and one for the state lottery.  We do that twice a week, and keep hoping that the universe will mess up and let us win.

Do any of the people that have been here at LP from the start or early on remember what the jp was for the first 'lotto fever'?

I'm sure there was a time when \$160M would have created one but as one poster said a while back now it takes about \$300M.

This one is creating a little bit of a stir because it's been 5 months since a big one.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

I remember before the neighboring states had PowerBall and BigGame, lots of players from those states would travel to Ohio to buy some Super Lotto tickets when ever its jackpot was \$50M.  Now that they have MM and PB locally, they wouldn't travel to town to buy tickets for a \$50M jackpot.

Well, at least the rollover was higher than the "minimum" \$15 million

Play every draw and still see where this is headed.  I have a friend that plays only when it get really high, and than he's mad if someone wins the jackpot say, when it is at 60 million.  I will take any jackpot win.

If you ever win one of those smaller jackpots you risk pissing a friend off and losing a friendship.  Is playing every drawing worth that potential lost?
