you would need to then get everyone to sign an agreement to dissolve the agreement! or date the agreement, for 1 calendar month. and continuously resign it. I guess thats where office pools go wrong. they need to actually be a contract for one draw only. and any winnings from that draw are only to be spent on tickets with claims to that original contractees, the following  draw a new contract, just for that draw needs to be filed and the previous winnings plays no part in the following contract.  jeeeze this lotto business gets complicated.

      .

      TO ALL LOTTO PLAYERS:

Be careful of what you promise other people, especially regarding your lotto prizes.  Never make a promise to someone else, and state anything in an email, paper or anything like that, unless you put definite restrictions on it.

And don't loan a SINGLE DOGGONE PENNY to anyone else, without a signed contract of some sort. Unless of course, it's for cab fare, and you don't want to keep Achmed, the cabby waiting, while you and the little woman go through the money-loan contract. In that case, I'm not sure what you're supposed to do.

I simply can't get my head around the fact that people will take others to court, as in this case. It's just getting unbelievable, what people will do these days.  It makes me wish to resign from the human race, altogether.  But then, if I did, what would I be? A cat? A dog? A monkey?

I have definite plans for any significant lotto jackpot. Yes, it would include donations to things like childrens' hospitals.  But, I would have to have a yacht (for the little woman and me), With a servant named Demitri.

      • Don't chase the numbers you play.
      • Play only numbers you've already played, plus however many random picks.
      • But, ALWAYS the regular numbers you play.  This will make you a winner, not a chaser.
(so far, though, I've yet to win any significant lotto prize)

Good point re office pools.   Another reason to avoid them.  Too many potential

          legal issues there.

I was wondering that too.  I stand by my original assertion that this fella was a mooch.

Exactly CrazyJaney.  My mother has a saying too.  "No one takes advantage of you, that YOU don't let them".

My other favorite saying that applies in this case is from Sophia on the Golden Girls:

"There is only two reasons a man will marry a woman after a certain age... Nurse or Purse".

The jury was clearly wrong! How dumb can they be? The guy was engaged to someone else therefore, negating any agreements they may have had while they were together.

For example, while together, they may have agreed to have sex at least 5 times a week for the rest of their lives. Now that they have broken up, according to the jury's reasoning, they would have to continue meeting up.

The woman needs to appeal! I bet with any other jury, her former boyfriend wouldn't get a dime!

This goes against the lottery's own rules. She could win on appeal

"The two fell in love in 1991. She hired him to make improvements to her Geneva farmhouse then let him move in and live rent free. She had him evicted in 2009, two years after she won the jackpot and one year after he sued her, demanding half of her winnings."

He/she bought the ticket in 2007. He sued her in 2008.  She evicted him in 2009.  He said he gave her the money to buy the ticket.  Maybe the jurors took into consideration the value of the car he won but did not share with her.

1991 to 2009 is 18 years they were living together. So after she won she decided he had to go?  After he sued her he had to go. Right.

Another reason why lottery winners should only play in states where they can remain anonymous.

Smart lottery winners form trust to claim their winnings.  They send an attorney to the lottery headquarters to claim the prize in trust, so that ONLY the name of the trust is revealed.  And they tell NO ONE, especially relatives.

If you ever win a lottery and you are single, the only person you should ever marry is someone who was truly in love with you BEFORE you won the jackpot!

I didn't know why the former middle middle school teacher had to pay up $291,000 to her former sweetheart.

Lots of sour grapes here now that the gender roles are reversed.  Edit: I see the man being called a mooch by a lot of people,  what were the woman that sued  like this then?
