Canada 6/49

ABBOTSFORD, British Columbia — A Canadian man who won a CA$9.7 million (US$7.4 million) lottery jackpot said he wants his children "to find out about it on the news."

Daniel Schulli of Abbotsford, British Columbia, said he's been in a state of shock and elation since winning the top price in the Sept. 17 Lotto 6/49 draw.

"This is just so surreal," Schulli said. "My wife and I have been walking around the house giggling because we just can't believe it!"

Schulli said he already has his first purchase planned.

"A brand new pickup truck because my kids keep laughing at my old 1996 pickup," Schulli said.

He said he'll be the one laughing when his kids find out about the secret he's been keeping from them.

"I haven't told my three youngest children about the win," Schulli said. "They're going to find out about it on the news!"

Maybe he's the type that likes practical jokes, who knows?  It would be cool if they recorded the kids' reactions to the news, that would be priceless.

Congratulations Daniel and tax free too.

I Agree! with you Bleudog101. His family is set for the rest of their lives. Amazing.

Tax free lottery win is a very good thing. Splendid indeed. When I initially glanced at the headline, I was hoping it had nothing to do with the CREEPY CLOWNS that go around scaring kids.

Congratulations on the big win!  Please rethink how you and your wife should inform your young children ... children shouldn't be watching news shows; causes high anxiety and disenchantment with society.

Maybe our Canadian friends don't have tabloid trashy news like it seems we do here.

The news is nothing compared to the internet and kids having cell phones. Thumbs Down

I LUV this story! I can't do this to my kids as I am in Maryland and can claim anonymous.

I was referring to the standard local news stories that each country provides. It is a bad habit to watch, period.

Sounds like a fun guy to let his kids find out this way...
