Tennessee LotteryTennessee Lottery: Tennessee Lottery celebrates eclipse with new scratch-off gameRating:

By Todd Northrop

There's nothing like the moon passing in front of the sun for 15 minutes to get people running to the store for scratch-off lottery tickets.

So must have went the theory when the Tennessee Lottery decided to launch its latest instant lottery game, Eclipse Jumbo Bucks.

The lottery stated in a release that the new game offers "a fun way to celebrate the upcoming total solar eclipse."

On August 21, a solar eclipse will be visible in the United States from coast to coast, and Tennessee is one of the states where viewers will be able to witness a total solar eclipse. That's the type of eclipse in which the sun is completely covered by the moon.

People in other states not directly in line with the eclipse will at least witness a partial eclipse, in which most or some of the sun is covered by the moon.

The new $3 scratch-off lottery ticket features a colorful image of the sun peeking out from behind the moon and gives players a chance to win up to $75,000.

"This fun new game is a great way to commemorate this historic event while raising funds for education in Tennessee," said Rebecca Hargrove, President and CEO of the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation.

"Eclipse Jumbo Bucks Seasons" is available for a limited time at Tennessee Lottery retailers throughout the state.

It is a solar eclipse, not a lunar eclipse. Solar = eclipse of the sun. Lunar = eclipse of the moon.

You're right, I used "lunar" a couple of times.  It's been fixed.

It dawned on me the other day that this would be one of those rare occasions when people will be praying for sun instead of rain.
