Woman scratches off three winning lottery tickets in a row

Kansas Lottery

A Kansas woman who bought three scratch-off lottery tickets skipped one because she thought there wouldn't be two winners in a row — but she was wrong.

Ruth Wright of Kingman told Kansas Lottery officials she bought three $10 Tiger Pride scratch-off tickets at the White's Foodliner store in Kingman and the first ticket she scratched revealed some good news.

"I bought three tickets, and the first one was a $15 win. So I moved on to the third ticket I bought, since I never have two winners in a row!" Wright said. "The third ticket I bought turned out to be a $10 winner, so I just assumed the one in the middle wasn't going to win anything."

Wright said she then decided to scratch the middle ticket and was pleasantly surprised to discover it was a $75,000 top prize winner.

"I couldn't believe it when I scratched it off. I checked it myself several times, then took it to the register and had them check it for me as well. Everyone agreed it was a big winner!" she said.

Wright said she rushed across the street to C5 Manufacturing so she could show her husband.

"I literally ran across the highway to see him. It wasn't the safest thing I've ever done, but I just couldn't wait to show him!" Wright said. "It took about 10 minutes for him to realize that the ticket was real and we were big winners! I asked him to hold onto the ticket for me, and then went back to work."

Wright said she plans to use her winnings to pay off her bills and invest in a business.

Even if she thought she was wrong Ruth Wright was right!

Women as Ruth is showing us are more likely to invest in business while the men drink it up. LOL

Although it was a small jackpot it really helped to pay those bills. $75,000.00 before taxes.

"Us" are more likely to go back to 3rd grade to learn basic grammar. Actually, make that kindergarten. Actually, make it the embryo.

Well it’s really your fault Sir. I mean in nine years, you have posted only 82 times? You have robbed the forum of your eloquence,in making sure people speak perfect English. Shame on you! You ought to fall on your own sword.

noise-gate, The cold virus going around here on the West Coast might be affecting me. I did reread my thread and it is a bit difficult to read.Bed

While the chances of winning on particular tickets is random. There are still always a set amount of winners in the book. Once I scratched the first 10 tickets from a book, and it had 9 winners. The rest of the book had maybe 2 more. Go figure.

Maybe it's just me, but I cant understand why in the world when players first learn they've won a large sum of money that they would voluntarily hand their big winning ticket to a clerk to have them check/verify it for them!!!

A lot of winners have done it. I've seen it in just about every winners story I've ever read.  Sure they're shocked and excited by their big win, but the last person I'd hand a big winning ticket to is someone that I do not even know their first much less their last name!

Because it happens a lot, but you never hear of a clerk trying to steal the ticket and having actually got away with it, many more clerks must be a lot more trustworthy than I give them credit for being. G5

l think it's human nature G5. The disbelief of winning and winning big, is a shock to the system. We do it all the time in other suttle ways. You standing at an intersection and  someone gets rear ended, we turn to the person next to you and ask " did you see that?"- it's called Verification, of sorts. But l hear you..

I Agree! Excellent post noise-gate!  "Verification".

When you think that you have a winning ticket, slow everything down. You have six months to one year to claim your prize.

Whether or not you sign the back of the ticket is State specific. Remember New Hampshire!

Well ‘Gate, in my particular case, my nature would be to say “Holy Cow!”  (That ain’t what I’d really say, but the LP censoring software would zap that second word I typed.).

But I guess your right.  Most people are a little more civilized than me!  G5

l know exactly how you feel G5. There are times, that l feel that the moment l step into a forum, * some folks have their finger hovering over the “ abuse button” to drop the hammer at a moment’s notice. I have never considered myself a lightning rod, but as they say, “it is what it is”...

Yes Music! The Fremont jackpot winner from 2012 scanned his winning ticket a few times, but did not hand it over to a clerk to “ verify “ it. However, he’s actions alerted the CA lottery Commission, and they sent in their squad to seize the video footage to identify the winner- that was so wrong! The other winner from MN back in 2015-16 * l think, actually handed the winning to fellow coworkers to verify that he was the winner. That was extremely careless behavior. The things people do, it’s as if something snaps in the brain that brings on this unusual behavior. Become a millionaire, and the thinking is: l need 3 mansions, 12 cars.. oh brother!

B. Raymond Buxton purchased his $425 million dollar Power Ball winning ticket in Milpitas, CA.

I did not know about the CA Lottery personnel seizing the video footage of him scanning the ticket. I will now only let the Lottery District Office scan it when I claim my prize.

I am sure that I would have convinced myself that I am the winner by going to different websites. USAMega will be first and often.

The winner in Minnesota was Paul White who's mother is named Betty White. At the press conference, Paul said that he thought about that day and made plans. He needed a better plan. I am happy that nothing bad happened to the ticket.

Some winners have not spent the time before claiming to research what the best things are that need to be done.  1. Do I sign the ticket or not. Do I live in New Hampshire or another State that will not grant you anonymity if you sign the back of the ticket? 2. Can I get the Lottery Winner's Claim Form before I go to the Lottery Office? 3. Have I read the State's Lottery Information booklet? 4. What ducks do I need to get in a row? Lawyer/Attorney, Certified Financial Planner, Accountant or Certified Public Accountant CPA. 5. Should I contact my State's Lottery Office or let my professionals do it?

Another mistake that past winners have made is not calculating the actual amount of cash you will end up with after all the taxes and deductions are taken out. Ask your CPA to do it.

In some states winnings over $5000 can't be validated at store terminals, but that doesn't stop a clerk from knowing the value and telling the player the ticket is worthless of a much lesser value. It's getting so bad here, I expect clerks to try and cheat me.

Asking her husband to "hold the ticket" while he was working wasn't the smartest thing to do either, but all ended well.

While you have the winning ticket stored safely. Consider creating an LLC and a Living Trust.

Limited Liability Company and a Revocable Living Trust.

The LLC will protect your assets the Trust will not.  The Trust is to avoid probate.

A Will will have to be probated. UGH!Confused

I don't see a problem with what she did I mean as long as the ticket she gave the clerk was the same one that she was given back in return you know like if the person was shady and gave them back a loser or something. I've been playing the big jackpots here in Virginia with an online subscription so I shouldn't have to worry about someone seizing videos of me buying a ticket not that I'd care. No one here would even know me enough to even put two and two together in order to find me. If I won the only thing that would literally keep me on edge would be having my gf find out through someone else other than me.

Three winning tickets!  Wow - that's great news!

Would be wonderful if I could pull it off.

Not unheard of had a friend in Carolina that did the same thing with a game called extreme green many years ago . 4 tickets in a row and 3rd was the highest prize payout . Congrats !

Congrats Mrs Wright!

Anyone who gives a ticket to be checked would think like that, I'm not surprised. I would never give anyone a ticket to scan, and i would be cautious to scan it myself , you never know who might be watching including the clerk .Haven't you heard of clerks going to jail for lottery fraud. That means they can rob you , kill you or have someone do it for them .The hardest thing is to win, but  it seems like people make it difficult after they've won, looking for danger. It shouldn't take more than a month to figure out your plans  if you been thinking and planning ahead in case you win.
