SC Lottery pays out more than $3.4 million
We now know that a lot of people in South Carolina have the same strategy for the Pick 4 lottery game — and it just won them a lot of money.
Nearly 1,400 people won the South Carolina Education Lottery's Pick 4 midday drawing Saturday with the same set of numbers: 2-2-2-2. It was a record number of winners for the Pick 4 and a record payout, the Lottery announced in a statement.
Lottery spokeswoman Holli Armstrong said that people started lining up to claim their prizes around 7:30 a.m. Monday, about an hour before the payout office in Columbia opened.
The Lottery handed out fans and water as the winners waited in the Southern heat. Depending on how much players spent on the tickets, and how many they purchased, payouts were anywhere between $2,000 and $5,000.
The weather's not all that's HOT in Columbia right now! A record number of Pick 4 players are lined up outside our claims center to cash in! We're paying out a scorching $3.4 million won on 2-2-2-2! One winner cashed out with $80,000 after buying 16 tickets with the lucky two's combo.
The drawing cost the Lottery more than $3.4 million, officials said.
Armstrong said the lines got busier around lunchtime as people started arriving from across the state. The office paid out more than $1 million by the end of the day.
She said there was also a line Tuesday but it was a lot smaller in comparison.
The new number crushes the 652 wins the last time quadruple 2s were drawn, on July 8, 2012.

omg. i love to hear things like this, as i know here in our state of NC, we almost had another quad of 2's a day or 2 ago, so this is wonderful to see with P4 game!!!(for SC)
i do win nice amounts each year playing (same key #s)with p4. do well @ it,
so, i am
always extra happy 2 see news like this where MANY folks win too!
Great job, SC.
I have no doubt NC will see quad five's or 2 soon.
Almost came out again other (2225) couple days ago here, in NC. Congrats!
I'm sure 1400 was the max and 2222 was cut off.
Same people that play 0000 through 9999 and 000 through 999.
Congrats to the winners!!
Very nice to see alot of winners. Same thing happened june 4 2019 eve draw in Texas when 4444 hit . the Texas lottery websight said there were over a 2000 winners so please be patent because of the very long lines.
Congrats winners!!!
South Carolina has had 11,171 drawings in it's Pick 4 history. This was the eighth quad ever.
That's one every 1,396 drawings.
Since we " Know" that State lotteries hate paying out, SC officials are probably muttering under their breath " darn, how did this happen?" To them, money should only be flowing in one direction- theirs.
Imo the only time the lottery is glad to see a winner, is after the State coffers are overflowing, and the " we fleeced them enough in this round " statement follows.
Here's something interesting about the SC Pick 4.
Based on the Lottery Post's Search Results, you're more likely to hit a Quad in the Midday drawing than the Evening drawing.
Since the start of the Midday Pick 4 on 2003-07-01, as of 2019-10-03, there have been 5078 drawings (Mon-Sat) with 7 Quads.
However, since the start of the Evening Pick 4 on 2003-01-27, as of 2019-10-03, there have been 6095 drawings (Sun-Sat) with only 1 Quad.
That's awesome!! SC is never going to allow 2222 to fall for a very long time, if ever.
Story of my life. Phone call comes in early yesterday stating play 444 that it will come in. Didn't play it. Came in last night in Kentucky for the tune of over $1.1 million!
While quads might average once in every 1396 drawings, a quad was drawn in S.C. four times in the last three years. The only thing unique about this drawing was the payoff amount.
Did you get a call to play 8888 in KY today?
Nearly 1,400 people won the South Carolina Education Lottery's Pick 4 midday drawing Saturday and SC Lottery pays out more than $3.4 million
When I read that KY sold 652 winning tickets and paid out $1,533,652 (including "1-Off" tickets), it occurred to me that if S.C. sold 1400 tickets, each ticket had to be worth $2500 selling zero $1 straight tickets. Apparently someone is exaggerating how many winning tickets there actually were sold.
There were exactly 1,393 winners for the 2222 according to the S.C. lottery website.
For the 13 Pick 4 drawings from 10/1 thru 10/7, only 3 drawings had more then 10 straight winners. 20-16-12. No other drawing had more then 9 straight winners. Five of the drawings had 5 winners or less.
Makes 1,393 even more incredible.
Oh wow.
So interesting. thanks for sharing that. i had no clue.that's always interesting to see. G-luck to all playing
their lottery games this evening. I still feel a quad
5-5-5-5 is coming out, before thanksgiving here in NC,
so i am keeping it in few x and 1x or 2x(minimum quad2222's since we almost had it a
day before it hit, in neighboring SC.
G-night, my fellow lp players."
IKR!(i know right.) my folks were saying this other day when it hit. so true. ha ha.yep. so true, Rman.
I would be stunned! if it ever repeat over the next six long months of fall and winter."We will see though."
i am happy so many got thousands out of it whether
the big whopping $5,000 each, some i am sure got it
$$$ multi-x hit $$$ $$$ or 2g's
it's awesome, totally! I just love this story."
And 1393 times $2500 equals $3,482,500. What makes that figure incredible is the fact if it's true, there were no $1 tickets sold. Lots of people play only triples and quads so there probably are more 50 cent straights sold because players buy all the trips and quads for $5. Bet someone in S.C. simply divided the total payout by $2500.
On 9/28 the midday KY Lottery drawing had 23 pick-4 "winners" collecting $4072 and obviously no $1 straight bets and probably no 50 cent straight bets either. The difference with trips and quads, there are no other types of "winners" unless there is an added bet option.
"it occurred to me that if S.C. sold 1400 tickets, each ticket had to be worth $2500 selling ZERO $1 straight tickets"
One winner cashed out with $80,000 after buying 16 tickets with the lucky two's combo.
80,000/16=5K
16 Tickets were sold at $5000.00 totaling $80,000. 16x5,000
16 Tickets if sold at $2500.00 @0.50 bet would be 16x2500= $40,000
16 $1.00 tickets were sold to ONE winner winning whatever the lucky two's combo is
They paid out "over $3.4 million" and that divided by the number of winners (1393) equals less than $2500 per ticket. That actual payout was probably $3,482,500 and somebody at the lottery simply divided that by $2500.
The drawing cost the Lottery more than $3.4 million, officials said.
Like you said, at least one player bought 16 $1 tickets and probably many more $1 tickets were sold. The total payout is obviously under $3.5 million because if it was over that they would have reported that number instead of the "more than $3.4 million".
One thing we do know for sure, there were no box payouts.
On average, a Quad should be drawn once every 1000 draws.
As of 2019-10-07, the Midday drawing is averaging about 725.9 draws & the Evening is averaging 6099 draws.
If the Evening doesn't hit a Quad tonight, that's a average of 6100 draws.
The half life of a Quad hit is 693.1 draws, meaning 50% of all Quads on average should hit before 693.1 draws and 50% of all Quads should hit after 693.1 draws.
Provided, this is a truly random selection, of course.
Tonight's Pick 4 Evening drawing, 2019-10-08, is the 2648th draw since the last Quad was selected back on 2012-07-08.
There's a 92.92% probability a Quad will hit tonight based on the Potential Probability of Occureence.
Thanks General.
"There's a 92.92% probability a Quad will hit tonight based on the Potential Probability of Occureence."
There are 10 possible quads and 9990 other possible outcomes. Based on actual probability there's a 0.1% chance of a quad being drawn.
Imagine my surprise when I checked and a quad wasn't drawn.
I think the problem here is most folks get caught up in the math probabilities and do not realize random could care less one way or another on what our math dictates. You can recite any or all the exotic math formulas until blue in the face and yes sir, numbers don't lie.
Hence like you said, there's a 0.1% chance of a quad being drawn. That is fact, by the 9990 other combinations to only, 10 quads ratio.. This will not stop anyone from plucking down their cash on a Potential Probability of, "THIS TIME I WILL win Chance"..
Imagine my surprise when I checked and a quad wasn't drawn. I wonder
..
Tonight's Evening Quad Potential Occurrence Probability is now 92.93%.
Good Luck Everyone.
But, but lots of people here believe those numbered ping pong are programmed to remember which of them and in whatever combination with the others were drawn in the past.
Please don't disillusion their beliefs with "actual probabilities.
Tonight's Quad potential is still 92.93%.
This is radioactive decay in slow motion folks.
Hmm, now up to 92.95% for Sat Evening.
Seems bit odd.
Good Luck.
"This is radioactive decay in slow motion folks."
Yeah, but far less predictable.
This Sunday Evening's Quad Potential now at 92.96%.
Keeps growing.
Wow, the potential grew by 0.01%!
