A 19-year-old high school student pleads guilty to trying to con the Maryland Lottery out of $175,000.

John Gilbert was sentenced in Baltimore County court Tuesday to 50 hours of community service and six months probation for presenting a counterfeit ticket for payment.

Prosecutors say Gilbert taped together the top half of a losing Mega Millions ticket with the bottom half of a ticket showing the winning numbers, which he'd played the day after the drawing.

And the dummy thought that the barcode at the bottom of the ticket meant nothing?

Well, I am sure that the MD lottery thanks him for contributing to funding their sports stadium bonds.

For 50 hours community service you get a shot at $175, 000. Not a bad deal IMHO.
