considering i dont play mega or powerball unless it breaks 300 million the 400 i do spend isn't that much. In fact in 2003 it was $0 dollars. So I'm not worried. If you want a finanical drain try the daily pick 3 - a long loosing streak in that game will suck out alot more money over time. I't why I had to quit playing and change how I gamble

so as to spend less.

I'm curious why do you only play when the pot hits 300 million?

you only should play when the jackpots are high, use all your bullets for jackpots that have the best dollar to odds ratio. its just smart playing. when you chase 165 million to one odds you want to be paid that god forbid you hit it. but your a lot smarter playing take fives and such with a lot shorter odds where if you blow 500 bucks when the jackpot is say 500K at least your cutting your odds down to about 1000 to one. and many people have bucked those odds before.

My guess is that the $1800 was a group play. Imagine 36 players each contributing $50 each. Now they have a 1 on 67,000 chance of hitting the jackpot and walk away with $6 million (annuity) dollars each.

If they played the $50 on their own, they would only have a chance of 1 in 2.4 million of hitting the jackpot

Given the choice, I would go with the group play because I would rather have a good chance to win $6 million than a long shot at $215 million.

      Good luck,

      Jake

I would guess that he was purchasing on behalf of a group but again, that's a little extreme. We've done groups at work a couple of times in which we put in $1 or $5 a person and ended up buying over 100 tickets. The lady running the pool bought quickpicks. We did get a few $3 wins out of that but far less than the $100 total we'd put in. That was rolled back into another purchase of tickets, which netted $0.

The clerk at Circle K around the corner from my home told me once someone came in and bought $500 in tickets and didn't win anything.

If I were able to buy a large number of tickets like that, I wouldn't use quickpicks. I'd try to use a system to pick the numbers so we'd get a good mix of them. When I've done quickpicks in the past, I've often gotten several tickets with numbers in common. I'd rather have different numbers on each ticket.

It's a moot point for the moment, since a winning ticket sold in Delaware won the big jackpot, so it's back down to $10million.

I only play Powerball when the jackpot gets above $100 million, partially for the reasons you mention. I play Louisiana Lotto more because even though the jackpots are lower, the odds are better. The last several times I played Powerball, I didn't match a single number, but I usually manage to match one or two on Lotto. The other thing about Powerball is lately, it seems a single winner has been hitting the jackpots, as opposed to multiple winners. I know a few people who have simply quit playing becasue the odds against winning are just too high.

If LA had Hot Lotto, would you play it?

I dont understand the fascination with hot lotto? It rolls like 50k at a time and the odds of hitting it are just like most state lotteries.  Yeah the overall chances of cashing a winning ticket are higher than most lotteries. But any lottery that takes 9 months to reach 8 figures is just not all that great a game.

I will stick to dropping bombs on the Little Lotto when its high and then enjoying games such as Lucky 5 in Indiana or Supercash in Wisc.  Games that feature top prizes that dont have odds of over 1 million to one.

1 winner for (annuitized) $214 million - ticket purchased in Delaware.

Looks like I just saved 10 bucks and train fare (to Providence) - I think CW is looking at its first rolldown on Thursday so I might spend that then.

I really like the new little Lotto, esp when it gets bigger...

It is more rewarding, because you can get somthing back when you match 2 numbers... When it gets bigger the odds/payback ratio seems much better...

Supercash is boring, it takes 4 numbers to get anything back....

I always make a play in Powerball and Mega Millions, because $10 mil would be wonderful!

The lotto is my retirement plan... :-)

i like hot the pick 5 games are starting to roll over, but i would really like to see a pick 5 game with a jackpot over a million dollars, and not after two weeks of rolls.

I've redone my website.  Go to www.dr-ew.com.  I kept a lot of the old stuff, and I've added some new stuff.  Look for more new stuff in the coming weeks.

Last year in June we went to Virginia, about 120 miles from Charlotte Nc because the jackpot was near 150 millions , we played $100 we had a winner for $7 we never went back to cash it. you can drive with the illusion to win $150 millions but to cash 7 bucks, NO

Now I'm not so sure about Cash Winfall (MA) rolling down on Thursday - the pot (not hit) for last night only went from $1,563,302 to $1,738,488 - at that rate it would fall short of $2 million by Thursday. There's yet to be a jump in the jackpot of $262K (the amount needed to cause a roll down inf now winner) between drawings.

I think enough players know about the rolldown feature.
