PowerballPowerball: $52 Million Powerball Jackpot Up for Grabs

Fall temperatures may be dipping but Powerball is just starting to heat up. There were no Powerball jackpot winners Saturday but 415,818 players across the nation won a total of more than $3 million in prizes in America's Game.

Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $52 million.

The cash option for the Wednesday, November 10 drawing will be an estimated $28.6 million.

The numbers drawn were: 18, 22, 33, 38, 40 and the Powerball was 19. The Power Play multiplier was 3.

Five players correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $100,000. The tickets were sold in Louisiana, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania (3).

Twenty-five players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $5,000. Two additional players not only won that prize level, but also purchased the Power Play option for a total win of $15,000.

More than 56,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 3 Saturday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.

Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.

Players purchased more than 16.8 million tickets between Thursday and Saturday night.

The lotteries sold more than $2.2 billion in Powerball tickets in FY04. That translates into more than $660 million for worthwhile state projects.

The higher the Powerball jackpot, the less sense it makes to purchase PowerPlay.

It depends; if you win the jackpot it becomes irrelevant whether you PowerPlayed or not. But if, and more likely, you are lucky enough to match lower prizes you will be kicking yourself for not going with the PowerPlay.

    $100,000 is sweet but $200,000 -  $500,000 is sweeter.

What I mean is that the higher the jackpot, you might as well shoot for it.
