Container garden [green tomatoes dropping]
Out in the yard doing lawn care today using the edge trimmer. Can not mow with my hip the way it is. When I got that done I was watering the container plants that needed it on the deck and noticed I have fruit drop on the yellow cherry tomato plant. The most I can find out is that it has been in the nineties during the day and hot at night creating unfavorable conditions for the tomatoes.
This weather in S. C. where I live sucks for growing anything. The only thing that does w...

How I grew to be 6'1" tall
We use to have maybe three or four milk cows on the farm that we had for our own use. The cows use to be put into stanchions at night which had a gutter on the tail end to catch the urine and excrement. We use to wheel it out with a wheel barrow building the manure pile. Generally every spring when it dried out enough we loaded up the manure spreader by hand. When it came time to load the manure spreader I took off my boots and shoes and plodded through the manure squeezing it between m...

Container garden [fungus & critters in soil heat treatment]
Seeing the containers and contents are portable rather than on the ground soil it may be simpler to do the heat treatment. I would not have hot enough outside temperature and enough direct sunlight before spring gardening season. I want to do it when the vegetables are done I have in them now.
I could purchase a metal tub like the old wash tubs and put the container mix in that depending on the size of the tub. Maybe put the tub in a three sided enclosure. Then I could put an electr...

Container garden [ a little whining]
Seen a caterpillar on the a cuke plant. Picked him off and gave him the sole of a size ten boot. One of the flower plants look sick. Flopped over and looks in distress. Tomato plants look like the fungus is back.
One thing about container gardening I only have one or two containers containing the same type of plant. Quite a loss ratio when you lose the plant in a container. The growing season is only so long even in the south with a spring and fall garden. Get wicked hot for vegetab...

Those worms for the containers
Read a couple articles today where worms in containers may not be needed and more trouble than they are worth. Soil potting mix is already porous enough to let water pass through and let in air circulation. Also the container mix may reach too high in temperature and too much water flooding through them when it rains for them to survive well.
An odd thought came to my mind. I was looking at these containers made of plastic in the garden centers which comes in different sizes. The on...

Thank you For the Comment Temptustoo
You are right Tememptustoo, about two things, Yes I chose to live here in the mountains, and I'm not forced to stay here. But to go as far as believe or think the phone service people just do not care about the people here on the mountain. That really taking it to far. The people who did the service were young, most of their conversations were about their plans for the weekend. None of us have any doubt about get what we are asking for and adjustment in our bills with a credit for service you...

I am devastated
I have loved the Atlanta Braves since I can remember and I ain't no spring chicken. But in all seriousness, we have lost our star player (Jason Heyward) for the rest of the season, possibly, because he was hit by a pitch, yesterday and his jaw was broken. I will cheer against the New York Mets every game the rest of the season, if my Braves' ship has been sunk for this season because of this....
