Pennsylvania Lottery thoughts
I happened to e-mail several PA state politicians about the following back in June 2008: Good afternoon. I wanted to contact you concerning the Pennsylvania Lottery. Also the lottery should do ads promoting the daytime drawings and the live nighttime TV d

Do you play an out-of-state lottery?
Later this month, because Pennsylvania Lucky for Life is ending, I will be driving to the NJ-NY-PA area to play New Jersey Pick-6 Lotto and Pennsylvania Match 6. I will also be playing video lottery in Monticello, NY.

Driving for Lottery Tickets
What is the furthest you ever traveled to buy lottery tickets? For me, it was the pre-Pennsylvania Powerball days when my dad and I would go from Northern Pennsylvania to Delaware to get tickets.

State Tax on Lottery Win
I'm lucky because Pennsylvania doesn't impose state tax on lottery winnings. So the worst case scenario would be I would be taxed by a state once, the one where I bought the ticket. And that's only if they tax winnings. If I won in California, Florida, or Tennessee I wouldn't have to pay any taxes to either them or Pennsylvania.

would you take cash or payments on the PB
One nice thing about states like Pennsylvania, you don't have to choose chas or annuity until well after you turn in the ticket. I have no idea of how other states work, but, I do know NY and NJ mandate that you to choose up front, long before you can afford legal or tax advise. To me, that makes Pennsylvania a much more citizen friendly state. Makes you wonder why the legislatures in New York and New Jersey force their citizens to make life long decisions before the fact.

What I learned from playing powerball
According to the Powerball website, 70% of winners use quick pick, but that's because 70% of players use quick pick. If I change any of my own numbers, it would be minor changes to a couple numbers while sticking with the other three that haven't been picked in a long time. The other winner from Pennsylvania has not yet come forward, but according to a news article from BigGameLottery.com, the Pennsylvania lottery is asking that the winner sign his/her ticket, call a certified financial planner,
