NC lottery winner spent $9M bailing out convict fiancé
According to the news reports I read, a bondsman bailed him out. We don't know for sure, but I'd be willing to bet that Ms. Holmes secured the services of that bond agency. A N. Carolina bondsman can charge up to 20% of the bond amount, which in these two amounts in total would be $1.8 million. She won't get that money back, that's the bond agency fee, just like a pawn shop or a bank charges interest on the use of their money. Bonding is a little different than a bank, which normally requires so

Dozens of 'dead people' collected NJ lottery prizes last year
Ghosting is a form of identity theft in which someone steals the identity, and sometimes even the role within society, of a specific dead person (the ghost ) who is not widely known to be deceased. Usually, the person who steals this identity (the ghoster ) is roughly the same age that the ghost would have been if still alive, so that any documents citing the birthdate of the ghost will not be conspicuously incorrect if appropriated by the thief now claiming to be that person. The use of c

S.C. lottery and electronic sweepstakes on collision course
Ms Bethea oughta mind her own dadgum business. Law Enforcement ain't none of her concern and she ought not to be stickin her big nose where it don't belong. I think she just wants to get in the news cuz she ain't got nothin else to do. A lot of these people get big heads and wanna feel more important than they really are.

Store owner killed for $3 of lottery tickets
This is why law enforcement always reiterates not getting involved with criminal actions. Let them take the money or whatever, it's not worth risking your life. Forget being dragged by a car, you don't want bullets flying your way. You can always make more money tomorrow. Especially over 3 bucks. Heck, I volunteer to throw money away everyday....and it's more than 3 bucks...

Cheated lottery winner files lawsuit
ttech10. The TX Lottery Commission (they have the available funds) should have paid Mr. Willis the remaining $355K two years ago. It would have been strong press for them advertising that though the ticket back wasn't filled out by Mr. Willis, they have chosen to support the law enforcement and judicial court's proof of theft. However, maybe there are so many cases of unregistered clerk theft, just like this, that they can't set this as a precedence. Now, with all the work the lawyers did, M

Wrong guy: Cops beat up lottery player
My philosophy is that it's not about how many people you can arrest, it's about how many people you can help. I will refrain from commenting on the article until more details are released. However, if the law enforcement officers violated Mr. Amador's rights, then they should be tried and punished through the criminal justice system.

Wrong guy: Cops beat up lottery player
It is good to know that the San Jose Police Department is training their police officers to kick people in the face! After all, it is always good 'surprise strategy' to do this. Another benefit is that putting a blacked out/unconscious suspect person (rather than a conscious person) into a squad car is a superior on-the-job-workout. Plus, the tax paying citizens haven't refused to pay for any blood removal cleanings thus far. What a nightmare. I would probably have received a heart attack if

Wrong guy: Cops beat up lottery player
It has become almost routine for some law enforcement agency to beat up on someone here in Maryland. But I haven't heard of anyone getting compensated for the beating. An apology maybe. Correct me if I'm wrong, Fou4Me.... I believe, the FBI shot a young man,(in the Glen Burnie MD area) in the face after mistaking him for a bank robber. I do not remember him getting anything from that.

Store owner guilty of stealing lottery ticket, claiming it as his own
This is a good example of a Lottery Commission doing the right thing. The people got all their money back plus interest even after the thief had spent part of it. The Texas Lottery Commission could learn something from the Canadians on this matter regarding the man in Texas who also had his winning ticket stolen by a cashier. They however, unlike Canada, told him he's on his own. Congrats to the Canadian Lottery and law enforcement for doing the right thing. The Texas Lottery Commission
